Product Review: Who Gives A Crap® – Toilet Paper that Builds Toilets – 100% Bamboo Fiber Bathroom Tissue

Who Gives A Crap®

This company is on a mission to sell products that are great for the environment and also help people on a global scale.

How are they doing it, you may ask?

~First, they are offering 100% bamboo bathroom tissue, so no trees are used/harmed/chopped down in the production and bamboo is a renewable fiber, as well.

~Second, there is no chlorine, inks, dye or scents used in production, so for those of you who may have sensitivities and/or prefer au naturel, this is the preferred choice for a premium product.

~Third, the rolls of toilet paper are 3-ply and is not something I see so much available in the industry for what I would call “alternative” tree-free paper. I like to have a thicker sheet to use. You can purchase a box of 48 double length rolls and it is delivered to your door with free shipping.

~Fourth, you may not know or realize that recycled paper has BPA which is toxic, and why would you want to use that to wipe in sensitive areas of the body, I know I do not and that is why I even pack it in by bag for day-to-day use and also when I travel, as I don’t always find any stores in the city I am going to, have this as an option. I do call in advance to confirm if they do or not and then make the suggestion to them, if they are not aware of it.

Note: I know this company sells recycled toilet paper on their site, but I need to mention this, regardless, because of the health issue, as maybe the “head hunchos” will see this and do some serious research to understand why it is not a good idea to use at all.

~Fifth, this company, also donates 50% of their profits to help build toilets in places where they are needed in countries that never had this as an option.

Here is the info took off of their website about this:
We think toilets are pretty funny, but we started Who Gives A Crap when we learned that 2.3 billion people (roughly 40% of the world’s population) don’t have access to a toilet. Unfortunately that’s not very funny. Around 289,000 children under five die every year from diarrheal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. That’s almost 800 children per day, or one child every two minutes. Luckily, toilets are proven to be a great solution—they provide dignity, health and an improved quality of life. And in case that wasn’t enough, it’s been shown that a dollar invested in sanitation yields $5.50 in increased economic prosperity.

~Sixth, they wrap each roll individually using paper, instead of plastic, which I prefer, even if some think it is wasteful, I disagree. I like the differnt patterns on them and can make a nice display of the rolls in a wicker basket (see pictures of rolls below). You can also reuse the paper for wrapping small gifts or crumbled up and put in a box for packing material.

~Seventh, the rolls are soft, but maybe not as soft for you, if you are used to a product like Charmin, which I do not recommend, but I think the small sacrifice for not super duper soft paper to protect yourself and the environment is worth it!

Here are a list of benefits of bamboo:
1- Renewable resource
2- Absorbs greenhouse gases
3- Fast growth rate
4- Minimal waste
5- Versatile
6- No fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides needed
7- Protects the soil
8- Good for economic development
9- Grows in a variety of conditions

We need more companies to produce & sell bamboo products and for the public to be educated on using them and their benefits.

They also sell facial tissues and paper towels.

Is Acid Wreaking Your Teeth? by Frederic Patenaude

Is Acid Wreaking Your Teeth? by Frederic Patenaude

There’s a threat to the health of your teeth that you may not recognize.

It’s called acidity.

Our saliva is naturally alkaline and prevents enamel erosion by supplying minerals to the teeth in between meals.

However, when the saliva becomes more acidic, more bacteria thrive and produce more acids, which eats away at our enamel.

But another more common threat is the onslaught of acid from the foods we eat.

A little acidity is good — our bodies can deal with it and restore alkaline balance after a meal. But when our enamel is already weak, and we start feeling the effects (sensitive teeth, cavities, etc.), we must give our teeth a break from all this acid!

Another problem is that we expose our teeth to acids more than ever before.

We drink healthy juices, or smoothies, which are often made with acidic fruits like apples, lemons or citrus.
We drink apple cider vinegar, hibiscus tea or lemon water.
We squeeze lime juice all over our food or use balsamic vinegar in an attempt to use less salt or improve flavor.
We drink wine, coffee, and other highly acidic beverages.
Acid is everywhere!

If you’ve been experiencing problems with your teeth, it may be time to give yourself a break from this acid onslaught.

It may be a chance to go on an acid-free diet! Not forever, but to give your teeth enough time to build back some enamel and get strong again.

Here are some foods to avoid during this “acid-free diet.”

Balsamic and all vinegar
Lemon, lime juice
Citrus
Many other fruits: berries, apples, mangoes, grapes, etc.
Coffee, wine
Pickles and fermented vegetables
Tomatoes and tomato products
Soda
I’m not saying that all of the acid-containing foods I just mentioned are unhealthy. Many are super healthy! But, when you want to rebuild your enamel, it’s essential to minimize or avoid these foods for a while.

Instead, you can eat all of the non-acidic foods, such as:

Nonacidic fruits: melons, papayas, bananas, dates, persimmons, etc.
Most vegetables (But beware: many become acidic when roasted).
Most foods you can think of that don’t taste acidic (whole grains, beans, avocados, etc.)
Acid Vs. Acid-Forming

It’s important to understand that a food item can be acidic (contain acids) but be alkaline-forming after digestion, while other food items can be alkaline or neutral, but become acidic after digestion. This is due to the mineral balance in the food and the presence of acid-forming amino acids. That is why most acidic fruits are alkaline-forming while most animal products are acid forming. Grains are slightly acid forming.

Of course, we’re talking about the contact of acid with your teeth, which is different. Ideally, you would want to eat a predominantly alkaline-forming diet that’s also low in acids.

The Acid-Free Diet Is Not Enough

The acid-free diet will help give your teeth a break and enable the rebuilding of enamel. However, you also need to ensure that you’re doing everything you can to turn actively around your dental health for the better.

The only way to prevent dental decay for life and reverse a bad situation is to take active control of your oral environment. Just eating less acid alone does not guarantee you’ll become cavity-proof.

Find out the exact method that I use to reverse and prevent dental problems, make sure to get the new edition of our program “How to Heal and Prevent Dental Disasters.”

In it, you will discover:

• How to care for your teeth (forget the TV commercials!)
• What you can do for your teeth if you already have decay above or below the gumline, pain, bleeding or loose teeth…
• Why the dental industry on purpose wants you to come back for more visits with new problems to “fix” every time.
• What to do if you lose a filling, chip or lose a tooth, etc.
• And much more

The only way to prevent dental decay for life and reverse a bad situation is to take active control of your oral environment. Just eating less sugar does not address the root of the problem (although there are important nutritional steps you can take to make your teeth cavity-proof).

How to “Survive” Air Travel by Frederic Patenaude

Check out below some great deals on Frederic’s health products.
These offers/prices can change at any time, so do not delay!

How to “Survive” Air Travel by Frederic Patenaude

I travel maybe once a month on average by plane, so over the years I’ve come up with a few ways to stay healthier doing something that is often a source of stress for most people.

A few of my tips have nothing to do with food. When you travel, your primary concern is to avoid or reduce stress. Stress will take a huge toll on the body and add to the fatigue of traveling. If you’re crossing time-zones, you’re putting your body under even more stress.

So my goal when traveling by plane is to lower stress as much as possible. Every tip I will give you has something to do with that goal. If you make flying a pleasant experience, your digestion and overall health will improve.

1) Get a 9 a.m. flight if you can

This is a tip that I picked up years ago from an airline employee. During weekdays, 9 a.m. is the best time to fly. Why? All the rush hour is over. Business travel must arrive at their destination BY 9 or 10 a.m, so they take the 6 and 7 a.m. flights. By 9 a.m., the airport is empty. Any flight between 9 and 11 a.m will be during a time where the airport is practically empty. You will breeze through security and get to relax at the lounge much sooner!

2) Bring Snacks

I always bring healthy snacks with me on the plane and to the airport. Most people don’t realize they can bring fresh fruit and produce as long as they are “prepared,” even when fruit is otherwise forbidden. For example, you can’t leave Hawaii with a fresh pineapple, but you can cut up the pineapple in a fruit salad and bring that in a container.

Fresh fruit is king for flying. It’s truly the best food you can eat, along with water-rich vegetables like bell peppers, celery, and cucumbers (and yes, I realize that two of those vegetables are technically fruits, but give me a break! We do eat them like vegetables).

You don’t want to bring too much and then be burdened by excess weight. I typically bring the following:

Ginger chews (to avoid motion sickness). Available in health food stores.
A big bowl of fruit salad, with plastic utensils and napkins (don’t forget that part!)
2-3 healthy snack bars
A small bag of nuts or dried fruit, or both

3) Drink water

On the plane, drink plenty of water. However, don’t go crazy and drink so much that you have to constantly go to the bathroom. If you’re taking a night flight and you’re trying to get some rest, that can impair your ability to sleep.

There’s no set formula for how much you should drink, although some people suggest certain amounts by hours of flying. Essentially, you want to prevent dehydration. As long as your urine remains relatively clear and abundant, you’re doing a good job. If it gets very yellow, you’re becoming dehydrated.

4) Considering eating only fruit

If you have a flight that’s only a few hours long, consider eating only fruit during your entire travel time. Personally, my digestion always gets messed up when I travel by plane. It’s probably because of stress related to my fear of flying. But fruit is the one food I can handle no matter what. Fruit is also water-rich, which helps keep you hydrated. You can also consume celery, and other cut up water-rich vegetables (but not a big salad with avocados, nuts, and dressing!).

If you’re flying longer, you may get hungry and need to eat something more than fruit. In this case, stick with foods that are easy to digest. Personally, I can’t handle a big salad when I travel by plane. But nuts and seeds work well. And I only eat airplane food when I’m sitting in business class (see more tips about business class below).

5) Drink green tea

If you need a “pick me up” while flying, drink green tea instead of other caffeinated beverages. Green tea is full of antioxidants that will help your health while flying. Bring your own tea bags and ask for hot water. If you’re in business class, they can make green tea for you.

6) Use Light Therapy

I use a website called “Jet Lag Rooster” to create a plan to follow before or after arriving at my destination.

The plan essentially involves resetting the circadian cycles by exposing yourself to light. The website explains everything, and they also have an iPhone app.

You will need a few pieces of gear if you want this to work:
An inexpensive travel lightbox
Dark sunglasses or shades
A night mask
This program really works. I’ve used it a few times and then traveled again without it, and it was night and day! It’s sometimes not easy to follow because you have to wake up very early at inconvenient times to expose yourself to light, but if you can, try to do the program as explained on the website. It will save you from huge amounts of stress and unpleasantness on your next international or cross-country trip.

7) Fly in business class

There’s a reason why business travelers fly in business or first class when flying internationally. It’s simply a more restful experience! You can sleep on a fully reclined seat or “bed” and be treated to a royal experience.

However, business class seats are not cheap, especially internationally.

I personally always fly business class when going international, but I never pay for it. I use the system I teach in the course “How to Travel the World for Free.”

http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?Clk=4847262 How to Travel the World for Free

Conclusion

Finally, the trick to remaining healthy while traveling by plane is lowering stress. Sure, you can boost your immune system marginally by consuming supplements and superfoods, but none of those things will have as much of a powerful effect on your health as lowering stress will.

Whatever you do, try to make flying a pleasant experience, and enjoy your trip!

Can You Reverse Cavities? by Frederic Patenaude

I’ve heard different versions of the same story over and over again.

A sort of dental “disaster” story.

It happens to people who change their diet for raw foods, vegan, Paleo, etc. But it also happens to different people at various points in their lives.

It goes like this:

“I never had any problems with my teeth except a few cavities when I was a kid. Suddenly I got a bunch of cavities at once! And over the next few years: gum recession, sensitivity to cold/hot foods, enamel erosion, you name it!”

Or someone has “perfect” teeth for a while, but after months of gnawing teeth pain that gets worse, they see a dentist, only to discover that they have seven cavities, receded gums, chipping enamel, and all sorts of discoloration on their teeth.

Different details for different people, but it’s the same story over and over.

Sometimes the diet is to blame; sometimes it’s not.

It’s not that raw foods are “bad for your teeth”.

It’s just that raw foods are alive and filled with acids and natural sugar, which cariogenic bacteria love. It’s their fuel.

Cariogenic = cavity-causing. Not what we want thriving in our mouth.

To avoid and reverse those problems, it all just comes down to restoring the alkaline balance and leaving your body’s natural abilities to regulate and work their magic.

If your mouth PH is alkaline and there aren’t much cavity-causing bacteria to cause problems, you can be eating sugar all day and your pearly whites will be just fine.

Can you reverse cavities without needing filling?

In many cases, the answer is yes!

It happened to me, as it happened to many others.

In fact, a recent study was published in an Australian dentistry journal in December 2015. They showed that 50% of dental fillings were unnecessary because many dental decay cases do not require them.

They wrote:
“A tooth should be only be drilled and filled where an actual hole-in-the-tooth (cavity) is already evident.”

When you learn how to create a healthy state in your mouth, miracles can happen.

Cavities can be stopped dead in their tracks. You’ll avoid some of the worst consequences of dental problems. Your body can heal itself — so can your teeth!

Of course, dental repairs are sometimes necessary. But why not deal with the ROOT of the problem and put your mouth in an alkaline state, with the right mineral balance — where your teeth can start getting stronger, your gums healthier, and only then do the repairs that are needed?

Don’t give up your health independence and rely on dentists to take care of your teeth! Do it yourself and you’ll have healthy, clean, beautiful teeth for a lifetime.

We’re excited about the second edition of our program “How to Heal and Prevent Dental Disasters.”

It’s on sale this weekend only! Check it out here.

In addition to the core of the program, the new version includes a lot of new material, including:

The Top 20 Dental Health Mistakes – If you’re not making progress, it’s probably because you’re making one of these 20 mistakes.
How to Make Your Own Mouthwash and Toothpaste Replacement – A complete how-to manual on how to make healthier and more effective mouthwashes and toothpaste replacements at a fraction of the cost!
Recommended Dental Health Products – An exhaustive look at the best (and worst) dental hygiene products on the market, and which ones to use.
The Method: a printable reminder sheet of the different daily steps to take, depending on your goals, to reverse most dental problems!
New nutritional information how to avoid common mistakes that lead to an acid saliva PH
How to get cavity-resistant teeth with two simple dietary changes – Key deficiencies that most people overlook
And much more

99 Things YOU Can Do To Make The World A Greener Place to Be! by Tera Warner

99 Things YOU Can Do To Make The World A Greener Place to Be! by Tera Warner

1. Recycle paper and plastics, and inform yourself about local recycling
regulations so you can reduce your waste as much as possible.

2. Buy e-books and e-programs as much as possible.

3. Bring your own bags to the grocery store, and if you forget, take paper
instead of plastic, which is easier to recycle! Most grocery stores now
offer re-usable bags you can purchase at the counter for $1!

4. Shop at second hand stores and make it an adventure! Especially childrens
clothing which tends to be outgrown while the clothes themselves are in good
shape.

5. Shop close to home and support local merchants and locally produced foods
as much as possible

6. Take public transport.

7. Walk, jog, ride a bike, skip or hop instead of taking a car.

8. Turn lights OFF when you leave a room.

9. Take shorter showers.

10. Eat more vegetables.

11. Install a reduced-flow shower head.

12. Clean your fridge coils for better productivity.

13. Visit your local library. There are loads of resources available at
local libraries and in this modern age these resources are entirely
underused!

14. Take the stairs!

15. Buy bamboo based products for housing and clothing.

16. Stop water flow when you’re washing dishes, teeth, etc.

17. Unplug electronics and appliances when not using them. (Many people
don’t realize that even things like cell phone chargers are consuming power
when not being used. Keep your sockets empty when not in use and reduce,
reduce, reduce!)

18. Wash clothes in cold water.

19. Check your tire’s air pressure.

20. Buy recycled paper products. (Post-consumer recycled paper requires 44%
less energy to produce, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 37% and
producing 48% less

21. Cut down on solid waste. Look for post-consumer recycled fiber file
folders as well.

22. Swtich to recycled toilet paper. (We can save 5 million trees and 17,000
garbage trucks full of waste by replacing just one 12-roll pack in every
household with tissue made from recycled paper.

23. Get a DivaCup instead of standard feminine hygiene products.

24. Print on both sides of paper.

25. If you bake, open the oven after to heat your home.

26. Buy organic fruits and vegetables, and support sustainable farming as much as possible.

27. Register for Green Energy with your city.

28. Drive under 60mph.

29. Compost! Worms are neat!

30. Use less garbage bags.

31. Steer clear of pesticides on your lawn or garden, and even put a little
bug picture or sign stating that you don’t use these things so that others
will be inspired to follow suit.

32. Give your car a tune-up, so it drives more efficiently.

33. Convert your car to vegetable-oil based fuel!

34. Avoid buying things in dollar stores that are made for instant disposal.

35. Offer gifts that come from the heart. Natural crafts, homemade cards, or
wild flowers, love letter.

36. Announce to your family that gifts will be from the heart this year!

37. Seal your home. In the winter, some people put plastic along the windows
to better insulate the house.

38. Eat foods in season and as locally grown as possible.

39. Start an eco-challenge!

40. Sign up for online, paperless banking and paperless statements from
phone companies, etc.

41. Cancel phone book delivery.

42. Install a ceiling fan to promote heat circulation.

43. Use energy-efficient light bulbs.

44. Support conservation agencies and donate to a green cause! We love
Greenpeace!

45. Use a power strip (when in the “off” position, they don’t consume
energy.)

46. Don’t charge your cell phone overnight.

47. Get involved in green politics.

48. Use a push lawn mower.

49. Buy plants, lots of them!

50. Grow indoor sprout gardens.

51. Buy products made from recycled materials.

52. Support eco-sensitive home decorations. Go for water-based and low toxic
paints.

53. Go bulk, and bring your own container when you refill on soaps,
detergents, etc.

54. When moving, pillage the local supermarkets and liquor stores for boxes
instead of buying moving boxes.

55. Plant a garden, even an indoor herb garden! Anything!

56. Buy glass storage containers for food, instead of plastic, or even
better, use old jars from pasta sauce (grab them off your neighbors if you
don’t use them yourself!)

57. Rewash your Ziploc bags, if you use them.

58. Regularly do the fridge tour to reduce unnecessary waste of fruits and
vegetables. Better yet, meal plan and buy accordingly.

59. Use rechargeable batteries.

60. Bring a lunch in reusable containers.

61. Avoid buying food with excessive packaging by buying fresh as much as
possible.

62. Fix those drippy taps which can waste up to 50L of water per day.

63. Donate clothes, furniture, extra paint, etc. to charity.

64. Support organic cotton designers and ecologically conscious, ethical
fashion!

65. The fuller your freezer the less energy it uses. Freeze those extra
bananas!

66. Spend more time outside. (So you remember what we’re trying to protect!)

67. Install dimmer switches in your home.

68. Use organic beauty products.

69. Carpool.

70. Never leave your car idling.

71. Go vegetarian or vegan. If you do feel best with meat in your diet,
support organic or ethical-ecological meat producers.

72. Use aromatherapy, instead of synthetics for perfume and body care.

73. Trade: ebay.com, craigslist.org, freecycle.org

74. Use concentrated, biodegradable and ecologically friendly soaps.

75. Pick up litter when you see it.

76. Find a Green Mutual Fund.

77. Buy fresh and dried herbs in bulk to make your herbal teas, or better
yet, grow them yourself in pots in your house.

78. Investigate eco-architecture and sustainable housing.

79. Use toxin-free traps if you’ve got critters.

80. Climb a mountain and look out at the world. Hold a vision of a
civilization without war, criminality or insanity. Think green thoughts!

81. Go LCD: An LCD flat panel uses as little as a third of the electricity
of conventional tube-based models, saving you on power bill the equivalent
of leaving a 50- watt bulb on all year. LCD’s use half as much energy as
plasma TV’s.

82. Cook less. Eat more raw food meals and keep your food choices as local
as possible.

83. Hang your clothes to dry!

84. Use greener cleaning products. Good ol’ baking soda with a splash of
essential oils goes a long way!

85. Avoid buying dry-clean only clothes. If you do dry-clean: bring your own
garment bag and find a green dry-cleaner.

86. Skip the dry cycle on your dishwasher, or wash by hand.

87. Shut your computer down for the weekend. Just turn that thing OFF!

88. Go veggie oil for your car!

89. Join a food co-op. Did I say “co-op”? That’s the secret word:
co-operation. It’s the only way we really can make a difference out there is
when we work together to make things go right!

90. Buy used books or join a book-swapping club.

91. Avoid buying plastic water bottles and get your own re-usable water jug!
http://www.greenpowerjug.com

92. Remove your name from junk mail lists.

93. Avoid Styrofoam peanuts and use shredded paper, instead.

94. Avoid packaged supplements, buy the real thing in fruit and veggie
markets.

95. Install Energy-Efficient, double-pane windows

96. If you have a pet, buy organic pet food.

97. Buy energy efficient appliances.

98. Recycle your electronics. Anything with a screen: computers, cellphones,
etc. Electronicrecyclers.com

99. Make your own baby food! All those little glass jars and containers make
for an enormous amount of energy consumption.

Remember to print this list and put it in a place where you will constantly be reminded to implement more and more conscious choices about your consumption.

Oh, and just for the sake of even numbers:

100: Skip the wrapping paper and excessive ribbons. Find a roll of recycled
paper. use old magazines and newspapers and get creative when wrapping your
consumer-conscious gifts this year!

“The Healthy Home” – 31 Ways to Protect Yourself & Your Loved Ones From Hidden Toxic Damage

“The Healthy Home”

31 Ways to Protect Yourself & Your Loved Ones From Hidden Toxic Damage

In their exceptional, informative N.Y. Times best-selling book The Healthy Home: Simple Truths to Protect Your Family From Hidden Household Dangers, son and father team Dr. Myron Wentz and Dave Wentz tackle the topic of toxins from room to room, starting with the bedroom and ending with the car, garage, and yard. “Every second of every day, we face an onslaught of unnecessary dangers—toxic chemicals, negative energies, unforeseen side effects, and more—in our modern world,” writes Dave, the younger Wentz.

Myron, his father, who holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology with a specialty in Immunology & Virology from the University of Utah, throws in the statistics: “A new chemical substance is discovered every nine seconds during the workday. Chemists discovered the eighteenth millionth chemical substance known to science on June 15, 1998. Many thousands more have been developed since then.” Wrap your brain around that figure for a moment. It looks like this: 18,000,000 and rapidly increasing!

Their N.Y. Times Best-Selling book is an excellent, comprehensive resource to learn how, exactly, we go about protecting ourselves from all the toxins. Following are just 31 of the numerous simple immediately applicable solutions they pepper throughout the book.*

1. Cut down on the wrinkle-free materials. Five minutes of ironing will spare you from a lifetime of PFC exposure.

2. Make certain your body is wrapped in safe, natural material for at least a third of the day by purchasing pajamas and bedding made from organic cotton.

3. Train and trust your nose. Of all our senses, smell makes the most direct connection between the outside world and your brain.

4. Use 1/2 cup of white vinegar in place of fabric softener in the washer to reduce static cling and soften clothing.

5. Unwrap and air out your dry-cleaned garments for at least two days in an exterior area, like a garage—never in a closet or bedroom.

6. Whenever you launder your sheets, open your windows and leave your mattress exposed in order to allow your bed to off-gas for the day.

7. Unplug your electronic gadgets and appliances when they aren’t being used.

8. Buy nightlights, alarm clocks, and other bedroom electronics that are illuminated with red light, which is less disturbing to melatonin production than white or blue light.

9. Open a window whenever you can to let in some fresh, cleansing air. The air outside is cleaner.

10. Cut down on toxic preservatives like parabens, phthalates, and formaldehyde by first replacing products that sit on your skin all day—like a moisturizers—with more natural, preservative-free alternatives.

11. Avoid aerosol products that have non-spray alternatives. If you must use aerosols, open a window and run your bathroom fan. Wash products off your face as soon as you get home instead of waiting until bedtime. A few additional chemical-free hours each day could add up to more than six years over a lifetime.

12. Don’t use antiperspirant during cooler months or on weekends when it doesn’t matter if you sweat a little.

13. If you’ve been exposed to mercury, consider taking a nutritional supplement containing N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) and alpha-lipoic acid to aid in detoxification.

14. Give your immune system a boost with the beneficial bacteria found on a probiotic supplement. Just be sure to look in your pharmacy or grocery store for a product that contains “live and active” cultures.

15. Avoid buying products that contain triclosan and its chemical cousin, triclocarban. Simply wash your hands with regular soap and water to get rid of germs.

16. Start with good antioxidant protection, supplemental B vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and lots of CoQ10. Also, try one or more of the foods that have been shown to lower cholesterol, such as steel cut oatmeal.

17. Start each day with an alkalizing glass of lemon water by squeezing a fresh lemon (no sugar) into purified water. Make sure you include the pulp.

18. Trade in your table salt for natural sea salt, which contains a mixture of alkaline complexes. And use pepper or other spices to liven your meals.

19. Maintain a good distance—at least ten feet in front or five feet to the side—between yourself and the microwave when it’s on.

20. If you must use a PTFE-lined pan, keep your burner on medium or low. And never preheat an empty pan.

21. If you plastic wrap, ensure it is LDPE-based plastic, and regardless of what type it is, never use it in the microwave.

22. Purchase reusable grocery bags made of natural materials such as cotton and use them as often as you can.

23. Use a pitcher with an activated carbon filter to reduce contaminants in your water. Although it won’t filter out all pollutants, it’s a good start at a low cost.

24. If you are cleaning with products that you wouldn’t eat, wear gloves!

25. Instead of using an aerosol freshening spray, mist your room with real citrus scent. Simply pour a few drops of orange, lemon, or lime essential oil into a spray bottle of water.

26. Buy the best vacuum you can afford. Optimally, get one with a HEPA “completely sealed” system.

27. Use a regular, corded telephone when at home or at work. Cutting even 20 percent of your daily RF exposure is a step in the right direction.

28. If you have Ethernet ports in convenient areas, you can access the Internet using good, old-fashioned wiring.

29. Don’t set your car’s air conditioner or heater to re-circulated air. Selecting the outside air option on your dashboard will reduce the number of pollutants you’re circulating inside the car.

30. Take a daily vitamin D supplement with at least 2,000 IUs (International Units) during the winter or year-round if you can’t get out into the sun each day.

31. Plant a large, diverse range of plants in your yard—native species are best. The more the merrier and healthier.

Q & A Series: People, Products and The Health of Our Planet – Interview with Lindsay Williambrown; Owner of All Well Brands

For the twenty-seventh interview, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Lindsay Williambrown; Owner and CSO (Chief Snacking Officer) of MUNCHOS! Raw Snacks – a product line of All Well Brands in business since 2013

My Comments:

I found this company/brand in a unique way. I was looking on craigslist in the job section under the food/hospitality section and entered in the search box for vegan chef and an ad came up for someone to help make raw food snack products for this company. I decided to look up the company online and when I saw the pictures of the products, I was amazed because it look like art. The colors of the foods used looked alive, vibrant and 3-D quality that practically grabbed you attention, as if there is a caption that says “TRY ME!”. That is when I sent Lindsay the question below about the products and when have been in touch ever since by phone and email. She has found a way to create snacks using ingredients that are neglected in the raw food world, such as daikon, sunchokes, sweet potatoes, etc. Most companies are focusing on the popular kale chip, so I am happy that Lindsay has chosen to focus on other produce.

Lindsay has some very special offers to share with you below, so please check them out!

My question to Lindsay in an email when I had first found her product line was regarding whether her products are non-GMO, organic and vegan.

Her response:

I use all L.A. County farmer’s market sources except for my honey, which is through Sleeping Bear Farms (and not in many of the products). All the farmers I use are beyond gentle with their soil nutrification and do not use any chemicals and are non-GMO, but most are not certified organic. Since the ones who are tend to be bigger farms with more money and less traditinal practices sometimes, I actually find the most inspiring growing stories coming from these non-technically-organic farmers than the big guys. Happy to talk more about it.

Question #1: Tell me briefly about yourself and why you decided to get involved in the “health” industry?

“Decide” is a strong word I suppose, as I feel like I simply followed my nose into food. I had very little food as a kid and what we had was heavy home-cookin’ fare that was the standard culinary wisdom of the 1980s, and there was a lot of unrest in my house as well. Those both contribute to unwell cells, and I presented increasingly ill from a young kid through to young adulthood. When my health reached a point of me having 14 terminal or chronic illnesses that don’t have cures according to western MDs and I had a pattern of 1 hour per day of productivity, I decided I either had to decide to die or live. I had been working with food and as a chef already so I knew food made a difference in health, but I had to super-size that effect by changing my thought patterns. Without eating the right food for me, I could not have had the clarity to know I needed to do that and I couldn’t have had the discipline to teach myself new ways to think about the world.

Question #2: If you were stranded on a desert island and were allowed to take only 5 items with you (they can be food, books or specific products that are all health-related), what would they be and why?

I’m terrible with this type of question – let me see here! 1) Water. 2) An axe. I will assume this island has coconuts available, so I should take a good axe to open them with and to do other handy things. 3) Raw plant oil insect repellant (from Living Libations if I can). 4) Alaffia shea butter for sunscreen for my very Nordic skin. 5) Assorted grain seeds for planting (and chomping).

Question #3: What one message do you want to share with the people of this world that is crucial for their ultimate well-being and longevity?

I don’t believe in telling people how to live, but I do know that scientifically, kindness is the only guaranteed cure that has never failed to produce wholeness in the human body or the planetary molecular structure. Being still enough that we can be kind to all that surrounds us makes us well.

Questions #4: If someone could afford to purchase only one product at this moment to start their journey towards better health (food or health-related), what would you recommend and why?

Grain seeds. They cost $1.50-$3.00 per pound in bulk aisles and $6.00 per pound prepackaged, and yield 2 pounds of food per 1 pound of dry seeds when soaked in liquid. I am not a physician, but I know from calculating nutrition statistics that raw soaked grains contain exponentially higher levels of bioavailable protein, vitamins, minerals, trace fats, and other phytochemicals. They contain the most balanced nutrient profile on the planet, require the lowest resource utilization per pound of food, and are the most bioavailable “heavy” food for humans on the planet. When you hear about the UN studies on how we have enough food to feed the planet on 30 cents a day or whatever (I’m old so I’m sure that number has changed since I heard it), they are talking about this kind of eating.

Question #5: Tell me more about your business/company and/or products you offer to the public to help them achieve optimal health and well-being?

Munchos! Raw exists for 2 reasons. One is to fill the gaps in available snackiness for the raw vegan: snackiness that offers car food options, salty, spicy, interesting, and culturally diverse options. The other is to provide a fun-to-eat, fun-to-hold, fun-to-dip snack option for school systems at an accessible price point. By using local, biodynamic, and kindly grown produce and producing it close to the source, Munchos! Raw provides 1-2 servings of fresh, raw produce in a delicious format that every kid identifies with and loves, and that I have NEVER had an omnivore not LOVE.

The flavors of Munchos! Raw are based in my fusion whims but, that said, they are rooted deeply in my background as an anthropologist who was raised in the middle of a dozen or so refugee communities in the southern U.S. inner city. The flavors are unapologetic; some are quite spicy, some are a little spicy, and some are super chill, mild affairs. They are all influenced by a sense of high homage in my life to those cultures, cuisines, and the victories of those who came to the States via sometime horrific and deeply victorious stories.

Two highest compliments I receive from Munchos! Raw eaters are:
-When my Vietnamese taster of the Mint Daikon Chips told me they reminded her exactly of her grandmother’s green curry soup.
-Ashamed faces that admit with downward gazes “I ate one bite it was so good that I saved the rest for my kids.” That’s the point, to make these irresistible to kids. And most parents know exactly what their kids will eat. Who hordes health food in their purse to give to a kid? Who does that with other health food you know of? This is the kind of response healthy food SHOULD have, and it’s the kind of reaction I routinely get to MUNCHOS! Raw Snacks.

The honey I use is so humanely produced that the bees who produce my honey are better fed and biodynamically naturally living than if we were not eating their honey at all. They originated in Michigan, and when the beekeeper heard years ago that almond trees in CA were suffering and losing biodiversity due to a lack of bee population, he came up with a beautiful idea. He flies them to CA for the MI winter to pollinate the CA almond trees. Given the laws and patterns we know about biodiversity, I expect this to have multiple beneficial health effects for the bees and for the eater. One is that the bees have a greater nutrition profile to draw from, which nourishes them and increases the anti-allergy effects of the honey they produce. For anyone wondering about the beekeeper taking all the honey from the hive to sell to us instead of letting the bees feed on it, I can set your mind at ease. What usually happens with honey, even raw honey, is that the bees who produce it are usually starved of that honey and fed sugar bricks instead, so that the beekeeper can harvest as much of the honey as possible for sale to human eaters. This makes many of the bees (if not all of them) diabetic and overweight, and makes the honey they produce from that sugar brick bad for us as well since that honey is devoid of the natural phytochemicals that come through a well-nourished bee.

Munchos! Raw is one of 7 product lines I have developed to date. They are all entirely raw and they are vegan except for the honey that two of the lines contain. Munchos! Raw are designed as car food and kid food, and they are packaged to be exactly one meal. Since they are raw, they contain entirely bioavailable protein, which means they contain 5 times the bioavailable protein per gram as any cooked meat or other cooked food would. Many people don’t know that when we cook food, we denature its nutrient molecules, which means that when we see a nutrition fact label for cooked chicken that might say 21 grams of protein per serving, we can divide that by 5 to get the number of grams of protein that our bodies will absorb and be able to utilize. What this denaturing means is that we think we are getting a lot of protein (and we are!), but we are not being able to use it.

Question #6: What are your hopes/aspirations/dreams for the future health of the people and the planet?

What I know is that we are all expanding in kindness and consciousness and remembering more and more our oneness with one another. My job is to stay in alignment and remembrance of that, and when I do that, it ripples into every other person’s ability to do that.

Question #7: Who is your greatest hero and why?

Heroes have never been a big way I categorize people, but some of the most off-the-chart remarkable, intelligent, connected people I have had the honor of interacting with are the many leaders of the Agape International Spiritual Center. One soundbite from any one of the reverends there (Joanne Coleman, Julie Moret, Rickie Byers Beckwith, Arlene Hylton, Michael Beckwith, Ron Blair, and lots of others). When I think about the profile of a hero, I think of them for their vision, willingness to grow themselves and others, and commitment to practical but unflinching peacemaking while acknowledging current realities.

Question #8: Is there anything else you would like to share with the public?

I’ve shared a lot, so the public probably invites me to stop there :D! But I am so thankful for your support of Munchos! Raw and support at a critical juncture during our scaling journey earlier this year. It’s a blessing to be attracting such amazing quality people committed to making positive presences in the world.

Question #9: I know that there are variables as to how much food/calories each person consumes when eating raw vegan food (based on many lifestyle factors, etc), but is there a basic guideline you would recommend for everyone?

I am not a physician so what I share obviously cannot legally be interpreted as anything except an opinion, so please always consult your conscience and intuition and trusted practitioners and make your own decisions. What I have seen on the empirical side in 20 years of consulting and clearing dis-ease, though, is that 5-10% of calories in a day going to fat is plenty for almost anyone who has grown up within the U.S. food supply chain. I have not met a longterm raw vegan who has survived a diet that is very high in seed fats and greens, and I would assume that is because we gain unnecessary weight on those diets and never have enough burnable sugar for a day’s activities. Also, having more fat in the bloodstream than we can immediately use produces an insulin overage in the body because any sugar that tries to get into the bloodstream is blocked by the fat floating on top of it. Removing excess fat from the daily diet dissolves diabetic responses by the body within a very short period of time (like hours or days or a few weeks). When we remove those fats, we no longer see the blood sugar spikes that eating fruit can otherwise produce.

The Value of Organic Foods by David Wolfe

The Value of Organic Foods by David Wolfe

The value of organic raw foods, superfoods, and herbs is critically
important for a safe, healthy, and happy future for all of us, our children,
and our children’s children. The evidence is increasingly pointing towards
an organic future.

Organics foods are known to have the following characteristics:

Organic food is richer in minerals:

Organic farmers, in general, are more interested than conventional farmers
in growing mineral-rich produce. The famous Rutgers study demonstrated that
organic food was superior in the following minerals: phosphorus, calcium,
magnesium, potassium, sodium, boron, manganese, iron, copper, and cobalt. It
all starts with mineral-rich soil. When more minerals are available to the
plant, the plant’s vitamin, polysaccharide, and enzyme content, as well as
overall immune system are improved. When we eat mineral-rich food we absorb
the nutrients that made the plant healthy. We also enjoy more conscious
choices and freedom as the cells throughout our body become healthier and
more vital. Entire books have been written on how rich soils help build
enormous civilizations and how subsequent mismanagement of crops and the
soil leads to a loss of soil minerals and the subsequent collapse of these
civilizations.

Organic agriculture is sustainable:

Organic food production has existed for thousands of years. It will continue
as long as humans walk the planet. Organic agriculture is non-toxic (it
leaves no permanent toxicity). The pesticide and artificial fertilizer
industries are toxic and not sustainable. These industries have covered the
entire planet with dangerous chemicals. The story of DDT is known to nearly
all of us. DDT went into commercial distribution in 1948. Because of its
unsustainable toxicity, DDT was banned in the United States in 1972 and soon
after was banned worldwide. DDT is a known neurotoxin and carcinogen. Who
was brought to justice after the facts about DDT were revealed? How many
people, children, and animals were (are) injured by this chemical? How much
longer is it possible to continue to spray the Earth with poisons?

Organic agricultural supports being chemical-free:

With the explosion of cancer and disease in Western culture, who has the
authority to say that any artificial chemicals are safe on our food?

Consider the summary from the following 2003 research article in which
pesticide exposure was at least six times higher in the diets of children
eating conventional food (as compared to organic food):

“We assessed organophosphorus (OP) pesticide exposure from diet by
biological monitoring among Seattle, Washington, preschool children. Parents
kept food diaries for 3 days before urine collection, and they distinguished
organic and conventional foods based on label information. Children were
then classified as having consumed either organic or conventional diets
based on analysis of the diary data. Residential pesticide use was also
recorded for each home. We collected 24-hr urine samples from 18 children
with organic diets and 21 children with conventional diets and analyzed them
for five OP pesticide metabolites. We found significantly higher median
concentrations of total dimethyl alkylphosphate metabolites than total
diethyl alkylphosphate metabolites (0.06 and 0.02 µmol/L, respectively ; p =
0.0001) . The median total dimethyl metabolite concentration was
approximately six times higher for children with conventional diets than for
children with organic diets (0.17 and 0.03 µmol/L ; p = 0.0003) ; mean
concentrations differed by a factor of nine (0.34 and 0.04 µmol/L) . We
calculated dose estimates from urinary dimethyl metabolites and from
agricultural pesticide use data, assuming that all exposure came from a
single pesticide. The dose estimates suggest that consumption of organic
fruits, vegetables, and juice can reduce children’s exposure levels from
above to below the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s current
guidelines, thereby shifting exposures from a range of uncertain risk to a
range of negligible risk. Consumption of organic produce appears to provide
a relatively simple way for parents to reduce their children’s exposure to
OP pesticides.”

Taken from “Organophosphorus Pesticide Exposure of Urban and Suburban
Preschool Children with Organic and Conventional Diets” by Cynthia L. Curl,
CL, RA Fenske and K Elgethun, 2003. (www.ehponline.org/docs/2003/5754/abstract.html)

Organic food is safer on our hormone system:

The endocrine or hormone system may be more susceptible to toxicity than the
nervous system. A growing body of research is indicating that an
inappropriate exposure to certain pesticides during the developmental cycle
of growth in humans and animals can cause serious long-lasting endocrine and
hormone disorders.

The Environmental Working Group recently published the following statements
(www.foodnews.org/reduce.php): “Many pesticides are now considered
‘endocrine disrupters,’ in part because the term is something of a catch
phrase for chemicals that cause a variety of changes in normal hormone
signaling. Some better known examples of highly toxic endocrine disrupting
pesticides are DDT (and its metabolite DDE) which are now known to exhibit
much of their toxicity through anti-androgenic (de-masculinizing)
properties, vinclozolin, a heavily used fungicide that is also
anti-androgenic, endosulfan, a DDT relative with estrogenic properties that
is found more often in food than any other pesticide, and atrazine, a weed
killer with broad hormonal activity, that contaminates the drinking water of
about 20 million people in the United States.

Eating organic foods, superfoods, and herbs is safe, easy, and fun!

You can grow organic foods anywhere with seeds, nice soil, sunshine,
sufficient moisture, smiles, and lots of love. Gardening skills are
attractive and make for a safe, healthy hobby. Organic foods have
been proven over thousands of years to be safe to eat.

Conventional foods have been proven over 50 years to be unsafe to eat. I saw
a conventional lettuce farmer near Santa Barbara, California climb out of
his tractor in a space suit on in order to protect himself from the
chemicals he was spraying. Does this sound like progress or a bad horror
movie?

Remember, you vote with your dollar. Cutting corners cheats everyone. Let’s
vote for organic farmers.

TIP OF THE WEEK:
SHOPPER’S GUIDE – BUY ORGANIC & AVOID THE “DIRTY DOZEN” FRUITS & VEGETABLES
According to the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) analysis of data from over 43,000 tests on pesticides in conventional produce, over 90% of ingestion of pesticides in foods can be eliminated by avoiding the most contaminated foods. The “Dirty Dozen” most contaminated foods are peaches (97 percent tested positive for residue), apples (92 percent tested positive), sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, pears, imported grapes, spinach, lettuce and potatoes. The “Consistently Clean” are onions (90 percent tested negative), avocados (90 percent), sweet corn (90 percent), pineapples, mango, asparagus, sweet peas, kiwi, bananas, cabbage, broccoli and papaya. “Federal produce tests tell us that some fruits and vegetables are so likely to be contaminated with pesticides that you should always buy them organic. Others are so consistently clean that you can eat them with less concern.” Says EWG Senior Vice President Richard Wiles. Download your wallet-sized shopper’s guide here: http://www.foodnews.org

Toxic Trends In Everyday Beauty – From Green Lifestyles Network

Toxic Trends In Everyday Beauty

In the beauty industry the current trend is to look young and rejuvenated. Women and some men search high and low for the beauty products that “guarantee” youthful appearance. They buy hundreds of products that promise to prevent or reverse aging. What most people don’t know is that there is an average of thirty artificial chemical ingredients in beauty products. These artificially produced ingredients destroy immune systems within the body then affect the waterways in which they drain when we wash them off. Many people fall into the trap of trying to achieve their desired look while overlooking the consequences of the artificial and potentially toxic chemicals that they use.

Artificially manufactured chemicals in shampoos, for instance, can break down the body’s immune system and lead to cancer. Cheap or expensive, modern shampoos are usually a mixture of a handful of detergents, most of which are harmful to our skin. Coal tar, a popular ingredient in shampoos, is known to be effective in controlling and reducing dandruff. However, it is also known as a cancer-causing agent. Another ingredient in shampoo, ZPTO or zinc pyrithione, can cause severe allergic reactions, headaches, nausea, fatigue, nervousness and lack of concentration. Manufacturers do not acknowledge these side effects when selling the benefits of soft, bouncy hair to consumers.

Shampoo is not the only beauty product that has toxic chemicals. Deodorant is one of the most commonly used beauty products. However, most people do not know that deodorant contains aluminum, which when applied to the skin, becomes absorbed into the body. The aluminum in the body is known to cause dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Other popular beauty products are antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers. Triclosan, an ingredient found in many of those soaps, has been found in the blood of wild dolphins, affecting their development negatively. Studies have also found that elevated blood levels of triclosan may lead to a depressed central nervous system and impaired thyroid function, as well as to hormone disruption.

Polyethelene glycol (PEG) is a common ingredient in facial cleansers. Frighteningly, this ingredient can also be found in oven cleaners. The ingredient is added to dissolve the oil and grease on our skin. When a chemical dissolves a substance on our bodies, it is more than likely damaging our external skin and our internal bodies. Polyethylene glycol is also used as a thickener to produce a creamy consistency in creams, lotions, and soaps. The ingredient deteriorates our immune system at a slow pace, taking away our skin’s natural moisture, and is potentially carcinogenic.

Another ingredient that is found in many facial cleaners and exfoliates are tiny plastic beads. Often found in cleansing scrubs for their abrasive effect on the face and body, they are listed in the ingredient list as polyethylene. Seemingly harmless, these bits, which are less than one millimeter in diameter, wash down the drain and eventually flow into our oceans. The beads fall to the ocean floor or are swallowed by aquatic animals. They will never biodegrade. An easy solution for consumers is to choose scrubs that contain sugar, apricot, nuts or other natural abrasives, that do not damage the waterways or leave permanent manmade footprints in nature.

Propylene glycol (PG) is found in hair care products, cosmetics, after-shave, deodorants, mouthwashes, and toothpaste. It is also used in processing our food and is the active ingredient in anti-freeze. Industrial workers handling this product have to wear gloves and even eye protection because of its toxicity to the skin. It also has to be disposed of at hazardous waste sites. We use this ingredient, however, in extreme concentrations in daily products for our skin and even in our mouths.

GREEN ALTERNATIVES

So what do we here at Greenlifestyles.org recommend? Most women don’t know that the same ingredients in the 200-dollar bottle of “elixir of life” can be found in their very own back yard or local market. Sugar and honey is a great facial. The ingredients are natural and healing. Many women look for products that promise to rejuvenate the skin and lift bags under their eyes. Instead of using toxic chemicals that dissolve oil, using lemon and cucumbers work just as well. Cucumbers lift bags under the eyes and lemon juice lightens the skin, especially dark unwanted scars.

Shampoo originates from the Hindi word champoo. However, in India most of the population do not use manufactured shampoos, but create original shampoos using natural ingredients. For example, the powder of neem (soap nuts) is mixed with eggs, almonds, curds, buttermilk and honey. The ingredients are ground together to make a paste that works wonderfully to nourish and strengthen the hair without stripping it of its natural oils.

Return to older practices and find organic alternatives for shampoos, soaps and more, to heal the body. Instead of washing toxic chemicals down our drains when using synthetic shampoos, soaps, toothpastes, and facial cleaners, it would be eco-friendly, health producing, and logical to use natural products that are better for our bodies, for the earth, and for its oceans. If we band together and choose natural ingredients over toxic chemicals and manufactured ingredients, we can make a positive impact on our earth, our waterways, and our bodies, all at once. We can do it!
