Acid vs. Alkaline Balance for Weight Loss by Cynthia Om

Acid vs. Alkaline Balance for Weight Loss by Cynthia Om

Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? Are you frustrated with carrying extra
weight? Well these are sure signs that you have had enough of living with an acidic
condition in the body. Just as our body works to maintain a body temperature of 98.6, it
is also striving to achieve a blood pH balance of 7.365. This can only be achieved
directly by what we eat and what we feel. When we consume foods on the acidic side,
such as, coffee, meat, dairy, processed food, refined sugar, and if we feel stress our
blood becomes acidic and our body naturally adds fat to protect the organs from the
acidic condition. This acidic condition is a breeding ground for a number of diseases
such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and many others. They all stem from acidic blood.

When we consume foods of an alkaline nature, such as, green leaves, vegetables, fresh
filtered water, coconut water, almonds, etc. our blood then begins to become alkaline,
ridding the body of excess protective weight. You begin to feel lighter and have more
energy; after, first passing through a stage of detoxification which may involve lethargy,
fatigue, headaches, and flu-like symptoms.

Blood pH is not the only important factor in weight loss, it is also aided by the enzymes
that are found in raw plant foods. Enzymes are responsible for every function of the
body and work hard to keep you healthy and rejuvenating. As you begin to clean your
blood you will begin to notice your appearance becoming more youthful. You body is
like an energy bank. When you are eating or drinking you are either making a deposit
(health, vitality, and energy) or a withdrawal (sickness, tiredness, weight gain). So next
time you go to eat or drink you have the choice to feel better. Don’t you want to choose
alkalinizing and healthy food and feel better today?

Q and A Series: People, Products and the Health of Our Planet – Interview with Niki Price, Co-Founder of inner-ēco™, Coconut Water Probiotic

For the sixteenth interview, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Niki Price, co-founder of inner-ēco™, coconut water probiotic, in business since 2008.

My Comments

I had started looking into consuming more fermented products that are beneficial to the health of our gut/colon/intestinal flora. I prefer to do it this way instead of taking a “pill.” I enjoy eating raw fermented sauerkraut because it tastes really good and is also good for you. I have reviewed a few different fermented food companies on my blog and also youtube channel. I have started to see in the health food stores liquid probiotic made with fresh coconut water and wanted to try it out for myself. I contacted this company, inner-ēco™, and they obliged to send me a coupon to get a bottle at my local health food store. They do not ship this product because it needs to be keep cold at all times because of the live cultures present inside the bottle. I am also happy that they package it in a glass bottle that is an amber color – which protects/preserves the ingredients inside from diminishing in value due to exposure to light.

The first time I had a spoonful of it, I really liked it and reminded me of ginger ale, except this is not carbonated, colored or made with any chemicals. It is a living food product! It comes in 3 flavors: Original, Tropical and Wild Berry. I tried the original because I wanted to have it without any added ingredients. I usually consume a tablespoon every day and have been for about 10 days, as of this being written. I can not say that I have noticed any specific change to my health, but I will still continue to consume it because I know it good for my physical health.

The only caveat, is that when I pour from the bottle onto my spoon, I always seem to lose some into the sink. There is no spout, so maybe I will use a glass under it, so I do not have to waste any. It is very precious and valuable and want it in my body and not down the drain. I mentioned this to Niki in an email and she mentioned that it is best to pour it in a shot glass.

Question #1: Tell me briefly about yourself and why you decided to get involved in the “health” industry?

My history involved struggles with candidiasis, my son had a compromised immune system due to too many antibiotics for chronic ear infections, and just having two young children who began drinking inner-eco regularly hardly EVER got sick.

My background is in elementary education. I am all self-taught in health. I’ve always been into health and nutrition and came across the recipe for coconut water Kefir out of a book called Body Ecology by Donna Gates. She is the pioneer, I figured out a way to package it and perfect the recipe.

Question #2: If you were stranded on a desert island and were allowed to take only 5 items with you (they can be food, books or specific products that are all health-related), what would they be and why?

I would want good clean water, my inner-eco, my green drink, fresh nuts and fresh fruit.

Question #3: What one message do you want to share with the people of this world that is crucial for their ultimate well-being and longevity?

Use good stress management techniques- take care of yourself by taking care of others. Pay it forward spread goodwill serve others.

Questions #4: If someone could afford to purchase only one product at this moment to start their journey towards better health (food or health-related), what would you recommend and why?

Any product that is GMO free!

Question #5: Tell me more about your business/company and/or products you offer to the public to help them achieve optimal health and well-being?

We offer a product that is fresh, clean of chemicals, pasteurization and healing to the soul and body. This product is about adding fermented foods into your diet. Our country is lacking this food group! Your gut is the foundation of your health often called, “the second brain.” Most of what we eat/lifestyle kills beneficial bacteria. Fermented foods/probiotics are about maintaining and building good bacteria. We spread good will throughout the world through our mission work. Read about Feed, Free and Educate on our website.

Question #6: What are your hopes/aspirations/dreams for the future health of the people and the planet?

That others around the world respect each other’s differences and all learn how to work together healing the world by giving to others who have less.

Question #7: Who is your greatest hero and why?

Dr. Martin Luther King who once said “the greatest sin of our time is not the few who have destroyed but the vast majority that sat idly by.”

Harmless Harvest – 100% Raw Coconut Water and 100% Raw Tea

Check out all these great photos of Harmless Harvest 100% Raw Coconut Water and 100% Raw Tea, Tee/Tea shirts and Tote Bags. Awesome products that I love to use and promote. Had a chance to try the 100% Raw Tea at Expo West in Anaheim in March 2013 and it is due to launch in the summer. It is an amazing product and look forward to it when it comes out. Also, was gifted with the tote bags and tee/tea shirts, so I wanted to make sure to take photos for others to see. If you have not tried the coconut water yet, you MUST! It is the best available and all Whole Foods seem to carry it. I checked out their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/harmlessharvest and it said that they have it available in a dispenser in Danbury YEY! No more plastic bottles there and hope that spreads to all cities that carry Harmless Harvest Coconut Water.

Disclaimer: I was not sponsored to write this, but I did receive a free sample of the product(s). These are strictly my opinions. I only review products that I, myself would use and purchase.

My Experiences/Experiment Dry Fasting 4 and 3/4 Days: Not for the Faint at Heart

Dislaimer: The information you read below represents my views only. I am not suggesting that you try and do this on your own. It is merely intended to share with you my experiences. It is not intended as a diagnosis, cure or treatment for any disease or ailment. If you are interested in doing a program like this, please make sure you educate yourself adequately and seek advise from a qualified holistic or medical professional. Neither I, nor anyone (person, company, product) I mention in this post accept liability or responsibility for any loss, damage, or injury that may allegedly arise from any information or suggestions herein.

Saturday June 1, 2013 @ 8:45pm – Beginning of Fast

Tonight I decided to start my fast. Since the Sabbath starts on Friday night, I would only do it for 6 days in total. It is forbidden to fast on that day, because it is a day to be in joy and fasting is done mostly for suffering/mourning. Not to say that it is suggested that one fast all the time. In the Jewish tradition we have fasts a couple times a year that are required and other that are recommended. This type of fasting is DRY FASTING. This means that you neither eat nor drink for a full day.

I, myself have done dry fasting (aside from the religious ones and when I initially started at 12 years of age, it was more difficult, as I did not have the same food habits as I do now) for as long as 3 and 3/4 days prior to now. The first time I read about this was in a book by Tonya Zavasta, “Quantum Eating.” (Click on the picture of Tonya on the right-hand side of this page to go directly to her website). In the book, she mentions that the Russsians use this as a manner of treatment for many different ailments/diseases under medical supervision, of course. One doctors mentions that you can go as long as 14 days without consumption of water/food. After I read this part of the book, I decided to try this for myself for a day and felt wonderful (I have done various types of cleansing programs since 2004 and feel comfortable with trying out things like this on my own and know what to expect, but I don’t suggest this for anyone to do on their own).

After that, whenever I did a cleanse, I would first dry fast for as long as I could do so. I do not find it hard at all because my body has gotten used to it. Tonight I went to sleep and felt fine because I had a meal before going to sleep.

Sunday June 2, 2013 – First full day of Dry Fast

The first day I did have elimination twice and some urination, too. Of course, not as much as when I consume my normal fare. I felt fine today with no problems at all. I do not engage in any activities such as intensive exercise when I do any of my fasts/cleanses. I may still do some activity, but keep it at a minimum to conserve my energy. I went out in the afternoon for a short while to spend some time on nature. I did feel a bit more tired and went to sleep by 10pm.

Monday June 3, 2013 – Second day of Dry Fast

I eliminated once this morning and urinated, too. I still had some urination today, but much less then usual and was a deeper yellow color. I still do not feel the need to drink anything. The weather has also been cooler outside, so that probably helps, as well. I felt ok, for the most part and stayed home all day. I went to bed earlier then usual because I was tired – by approximately 10pm.

Tuesday June 4, 2013 – Third day of Dry Fast

Still had some elimination this morning. Feeling no need for water. I know that I will probably dry fast longer then previously, but I will pay attention to how I feel so I will know if I need to drink or not. So far, I do not feel dry in the mouth or dehydrated. Most people would not do this and again, I don’t recommend it at all! I also have been doing this in the city and not in the mountains with pristine air and no noise/light pollution. I am also not resting exactly the way it would be best for me to have the optimal results – meaning no phones, computers, reading, driving, etc.

For those who would want to do a fasting program the right way, it is best to go to a facility that is specifically designed for this, such as TrueNorth Health Center in California http://www.healthpromoting.com/ Also Dr. Doug Graham (raw vegan 80/10/10 program) has a supervised water fasting program in Costa Rica – check out his website for dates http://www.foodnsport.com

Tonight I went to sleep closer to 11pm, but did not sleep well. I woke up and stayed up for a while. I started to notice a build up of mucus near the tip of my eyes in the inside part close to the tear duct. It was more then I usually see when I wake up in the morning.

Wednesday June 4, 2013 – Fourth day of Dry Fast

I woke up and when I tried to open my eyes, they were “glued” shut from the mucus build up around my eyes. I had to clean it out with water by the sink. Throughout the day, I continued to have more mucus in my eyes. I tried to used my fingers to clean it out, but that wasn’t the optimal way. I irritated my eyes and they were getting red and dry. Instead I used water to flush them. For you to understand more in detail what was happening with my eyes: as I would blink my eyes, after a while I could see there was some cloudiness in them and then it moved down to my lower lids and the mucus would stay there until I removed it. I never had this happen when I have a done a fast/cleanse, in the past. I would usually have mucus leave my body through my nose or throat.

Today I only had urination minimally, but no elimination. I still did not feel thirsty or the need to drink any water. I decided to go out and do some shopping and errands. I was out for a couple of hours and got everything done. I did feel a bit worn out when I came home, so I rested for a while. I went to bed tonight about 11pm. I went to sleep, but woke up again in the middle of the night. My eyes were glued shut again and I had to wash them out. I stayed awake and worked on the computer until my eyes were shutting.

Thursday June 6, 2013 – Fifth day of Dry Fast/Cleanse

When I woke, my eyes were glued shut again from the mucus and were a bit red and irritated. All day I had to wash them out because the build up was constant. I did not have a bowel movement today. I was still urinating some. My tongue had a heavy white coating on it, as well. I felt ok, but decided anyway, that I would end my dry fast at 4 and 3/4 days. Since I’d begin eating some food tomorrow night, I wanted to get some fluids into my body before that time.

I had my first cup of water at 2:45pm and then some Harmless Harvest raw organic coconut water (I have a review of their company on my blog, for a cleanse that I did – search in the archives for it). My head was not used to the fluid and had to adjust to it. I actually felt more tired after drinking because now my body had to start working to digest it, whereas before it was in a different state of existence without having to do much “work.” Digestion is work and takes energy. I drank some more water and also finished the 16oz bottle of the coconut water by the end of the day.

I went to sleep by about 11pm and felt more weary and had less energy then when I consumed nothing at all. It is amazing how the body works and to see for myself how I would feel. Of course, I could probably do it longer, but I would have to take a break for the Sabbath and then start over again for another six days. I may try that at another point or else try to do this once a month to give my body a “true” rest so it can heal properly. The body does not heal when it is “busy” digesting, rather when you are sleeping it can renew and rejuvenate itself.

Friday June 7, 2013 – Sixth/last day of Cleanse

I woke up twice in the night. Once was to wash out my eyes because they were glued shut from the build up of mucus. I got up again at about 5:20am to wash out my eyes again from the build up and to urinate. I went back to sleep and awoke at 9am. I felt more sluggish then yesterday when I awoke (perhaps because I was not used to consuming anything, that even having the water and coconut water took more processing for my body and it had to adjust to it). My neck felt tight and my eyes were glued shut again and I had to wash them out. I did urinate and eliminate a small amount this morning. I noticed that my tongue still had a heavy white coating.

I decided to clean my bathroom thoroughly this morning and it took a toll on my energy, so I lay down on my bed for a while. I drank some coconut water and water at ~11am and then again at 2:30pm. I feel a bit more energetic. I had some slight mucus around my eye today, but nothing like I had yesterday, thank G-d!

I drank again some coconut water at ~ 4pm and then again at 5:20pm. I finished the 16oz bottle and that is all I had for today. I am still feeling a bit sluggish, but not as much as this morning. I did clean my room (dust and wash the floor) to get ready for the Sabbath, as I like it to be clean for this special and Holy Day!

Tonight I will eat for the Sabbath, but have a small amount of blended fruit and chew it well because my stomach has shrunk and I have to get used to food. I plan to take it slowly to equal the amount of days I have not eaten so my body can resume its regular food consumption. If I eat too much, too fast I tend to get a headache, bloating and gas and that is not an optimal way to come off of a fast/cleanse.

You can read about my other fasting/cleansing experiences on this blog. Look in the archives to read about my 42 day coconut water cleanse I started in December 2009.

Company Review: Harmless Harvest – Raw, Never Heated, Certified Organic Coconut Water

Harmless Harvest – certified organic, raw, never heated coconut water
in business since 2011

I have been drinking coconut water for at least 5 years, but could never find the pristine, raw and organic product on the market. I refused to buy the coconuts in the stores that are wrapped in plastic. Why, you ask? In case you didn’t already know, they are not pure in the state that they are in. A young coconut grows on a tree and the shell is a green color and has a smooth surface. The ones you see in all stores are stripped of the hard shell and are a rough white surface. In nature, coconuts are the purest water of all (besides water you can get directly from a spring), as no one has done anything to it. Once you strip the hard protective green shell it becomes prime fodder for bacteria, mold, etc. to get into the water.

Since I would not buy the plastic-wrapped coconuts, I looked for a packaged products. When I was at Expo West a few years ago, I discovered a company (the first one to come out on the market) that was packaging the pure young coconut water in aseptic containers. I was so thrilled that I could finally drink coconut water! I did’t have to worry about bacteria, or mold in the water. I met the owners and found out more about how they got started on their journey with the company and the product. I am happy to have found them and then started using the coconut water for my cleanses. I even did a 42 day cleanse with coconut water beginning in December 2009 and started my blog because of it (you can check out in the archives of this blog for a day-to-day account of my experiences). Most people have never embarked on a 42 day cleanse, but I wanted to, to prove that it can be done.

Disclaimer: I don’t recommend you try this lenghty cleanse unless you are a long time cleanser and know what you are doing, as well as consult with a health practitioner and do it under supervision – I have been fasting/cleansing since 2004. I advise you to educate yourselves adequately and seek advise from a qualified health professional/specialist before embarking on any program like this, especially if you have any current conditions and have never fasted/cleansed before. I recommend trying it for one day a week if you are starting out. If you are looking to do a long term cleanse/fast please do so at a cleansing center that can support and monitor you so that you don’t put your self/health in jeopardy. The information contained here, is not intended as a diagnosis, cure or treatment for any disease or ailment. Neither I, nor Harmless Harvest, their employees and associates accept liability or responsibility for any adverse consequences you might encounter in using this product or if you decide to do a cleanse on your own.

What most of the companies are doing (yes, there are now numerous companies bottling/packaging coconut water from locations in Brazil, Thailand, Phillipines, etc) is pasteurizing their product because of the chances of bacteria getting into the coconut water. What this does is destroy the enzymes, but not the minerals (as minerals need very high heat for long periods of time to be destroyed and the method used is very quick, less then a second). As a result, I always looked for other companies that had coconut water, most were heated and not organic. I did discover one company producing organic coconut water in a can, but was pasteurized. Then I found another one that was raw and organic and was brought in frozen to the stores. It was more expensive, but I wanted to try it anyway. I found that the shelf life was very short and it went sour on me in only a few days.

Back to the drawing board, so to speak. I continued on my quest/search for the best and purest coconut water on the market (that is next to getting one off the tree, cracking it open and drinking it with a glass straw). Whenever I would go to any of the stores that carry a myriad of coconut water brands, I would look for a company that is doing it “right.”. Finally, I was in a Whole Foods Market and decided to go down the aisle where they had water and coconut water for sale. EUREKA! I finally found it! There was a bottle from a company called Harmless Harvest. I read the label on the bottle and knew this was the “real deal.” I didn’t buy it because I wanted to do my research first on the website to make sure. I was very impressed with what I read and the details about how the coconuts are taken down from a tree and transported by boats, etc. A high pressure process is used, so the water is never heated. OK, now I was completely sold. The only thing that bothered me was the use of plastic bottles. I decided to call the company and had a long discussion with one of the employees. I understand that they could not use glass with high pressure, because it would shatter. I also liked the fact that the owners didn’t just settle for the first source they found for coconut water. The fact that they had high standards, like I do, made sense.

I decided to email them my information about who I am and what I do because I wanted to be able to use their product for my coconut cleanse, so I can evaluate the difference between their product and others I have consumed. I called again and found out they would be at Expo West 2012. I would get a chance to talk to them personally and mention what I’d like to do. Well, it came to fruition. I talked to Justin, one of the founders/owners and he was on board to provide me with coconut water for my next cleanse. I finally tried the Harmless Harvest coconut water and I was HOOKED!

I received my coconut water for the cleanse I did this June from Megan-thanks! I had enough for a few days of my cleanse (so you know, I drank 6 bottles a day/48 ounces). I had already done a week on alkaline water (check back to my testimonial on Carlsbad Alkaline Water that I blogged about the end of February 2012) and now in my second week was adding the coconut water. The coconut water was fantastic. The taste was smooth, sweet and satisfying. I had a abundance of energy and didn’t have the need to drink as much water. This water, isn’t heated compared to most of the others, and is filled with enzymes, as well as, minerals (even when pasteurized, the minerals are kept intact because you need very high heat for a long time to destroy them, but not the enzymes). This is what, I feel made the difference for me. It is also one of the only ones that is certified organic.

Now, since I didn’t have enough coconut water from Harmless Harvest for the 7 days, I had to resort to using another brand for the other 4 days. Actually, this was a blessing in disguise! How so? Now I would be able to really compare the two brands to see the difference. The most noticeable difference, was in the taste. It was not sweet and had an after taste and made me burp. Besides that, I noticed that it would make my throat dry and would not go away, ever. I also noticed that I didn’t not have the same energy level and had to drink more water. I felt that the lack of enzymes had a large part in how I was feeling and wasn’t organic. I also don’t know how it is sourced or the method they use to get the coconuts from the trees. All this makes a difference as to how the coconut water will taste (and it matters to me tremendously!) and affect how you feel.

Once you taste the best, purest, sustainably-harvested and truly ecological product, such as what Harmless Harvest has done, it is hard to choose any other product. Forget about the cost, that is not the issue. You get what you pay for! Coconut water is great fuel for you body – “Nature’s Gatorade.”. It is full of electrolytes that are important for the body and can be consumed before, during and after exercise. It has many other benefits to the body and I highly recommend you read more about it in this book, “Coconut Water-for health and healing,” by Dr. Bruce Fife (I have it!).

Now you know that if you search for the best, you can eventually find it! It takes time and research. Just like the owners of this company searched long and hard to find something they believed in that was pure and true to their beliefs. They have nothing to hide and neither do I! Don’t compromise when it comes to your health and wellness.

Week 6

Day 36 – Tuesday January 5, 2010

My thirty-sixth day experiences: I didn’t fall asleep right away last night, but it didn’t take very long. I woke up at 1 am to go to the bathroom and my throat was feeling quite dry, so I gave in to doing the remedy that helps (I didn’t have to eat any food to necessarily ‘break’ from my cleanse). It really does work very well. You take a ½ of a large lemon or lime or a whole small one and juice it and then swallow and then take a small sip of water. You do not consume anything for a ½ hour. What that does is kill the bacteria in your throat (lemon and lime is using in cleaning products because it is anti-bacterial, so it does the same in the body) and is best to do so on an empty stomach (Ha! mine has been empty for weeks, so no problem there) because it is easier for it to take affect as there is no digestion of foods going on in the body. I got back into bed at 1:30 am and then got up again at 3:45 am to use the bathroom and had another ½ of a lime for my throat. Again I went to sleep and woke up at 6 am, and this time went to the bathroom and had a loose, dark and smelly bowel movement and was a significant amount. I slept afterwards till 7 am when my alarm rang. I can hardly believe that it is the final week of my cleansing ‘marathon.’ At first the time seemed to go by so slowly and now I am almost done. My energy is fine and I still have neck tension. Have some tongue coating, but not much and no noticeable underarm odor. It is another beautiful sunny day outside. I got out by 9:15 am and went to get my work done at the library. I left there by 12:30 pm and went for my walk. It was an absolutely picture perfect day. There was no wind to speak up and I didn’t have to wear any jacket or sweatshirt. I came come after and had some time to do my ‘sunning’ because my neighbor wasn’t ready to go out yet. We went to my co-op close to 2 pm to show him some things I recommend he start using from the body care department and also some food items. I saw some people I knew that I had not seen in a while because I have not been shopping there. Then he took me to take care of a couple of errands (which saved me time) and then came back close to 4 pm. It was a good day all around and my energy sustained and was good most of the day. My throat isn’t feeling as dry and sore as it was last night. Tonight will be another early night, as I have an appointment at 8:30 am tomorrow. I went to bed at 9:45 pm, much later then I expected, as I started looking at some information in a book on the food sources for certain nutrients and forgot what time it was.

Day 37 – Wednesday January 06, 2010

My thirty-seventh day experiences: I slept well last night and got up at 1 am to use the bathroom and then again at 5 am. I juiced a whole lime, as my throat was feeling quite dry. I got back in bed and slept till 6:30 am when my alarm rang. I had a very small evacuation at 6:35 am. My tongue is mildly coated, energy is fine and a bit of smell under my right arm pit. I had to get out early today for an appointment, but was running a little behind. I walked fast to get there and unfortunately I had to wait more than a half hour to be seen, as there were already other people there when I arrived at about 8:35 am. My appointment was called for 8:30 am for my annual female check -up. I had the opportunity to weigh myself on a manual scale with my clothes off and it said 108 lbs. I finally got done at 10:20 am and didn’t get home till 11 am. I was feeling a bit lethargic and walked much slower. I also noticed that I was burping and belching more after drinking my fluids, perhaps because I drank to fast and took in some air. I got to do some ‘sunning’ outside as it is another beautiful sunny day. I finally got out after 1 pm, as I was talking to my neighbor and needed to take care of some things before leaving. I had a nice walk and then went to the library. I spent some time there and left after 5 pm. It was already getting chilly out, but not as bad as other nights. I had all my extra layers to put on before I left. I made one stop before going home and saw a couple of people I know. I was still having some gas (burping and flatulence) from consuming my fluids. My energy was good the rest of the day, as I was drinking the coconut and stevia waters at regular intervals. Tonight is “bath night” and I am looking forward to it. I am using the bath salts“Gimme A Break” from Little Essentials and a new Pheylonian Aura Pot called “Visionary” A Shamanic Blend and I played classical music from the radio. The bath was wonderful and relaxing and not as hot as other times (as I was drawing the bath, the hot water kept getting colder, so when I got into it I was able to lay down right away) and I did not need to get out as slowly. I plan to get to bed before 10 pm, as I have a busy day tomorrow. I had an unexpected loose bowel movement at 9 pm and was a significant amount. I got to sleep at 10:20 pm, later then I initially planned.

Day 38 – Thursday January 07, 2010

My thirty-eighth day experiences: I slept fairly well last night. I did wake up at 1:30 am to use the bathroom and my throat was quite dry so I juiced a lime and drank it before going back to bed. I awoke again at 5 and 6 am to use the bathroom. Then it was up at 7am when my alarm rang to start the day. It is a very busy one for me at I have an appointment at 7:30 pm for 2 hours to attend to that came up last minute yesterday (so for sure, I will getting to sleep late this evening) I want to get all my cleaning done this morning so that I can sleep in tomorrow morning. I did not have a bowel movement this morning. I noticed my tongue had heavier coating in the back and I do have some neck tension. My hands seems to be dry and it’s probably because I am using the heater more and also I wash my hands in water that isn’t from a filter (wish I had one that could use on the bathroom sink like the shower because want to be able to use both hot and cold water). I took my measurements this morning and there were some changes since last week. My chest is 29 (slight change), waist 23 (same), hips 34 ½ (1 ½ inch change), thigh 20 (same). It was a very hectic morning, as I did some cleaning and also ‘sunning’ and got out before 11 am. I went for my walk and then it got a bit windy so I didn’t go for a full hour. I then took the bus to do my volunteering (which I haven’t done in a couple of weeks). I came home right after and did a bit more cleaning before I left at about 2:20 pm and was out for the rest of the day. I did some catch up work on the internet at the local Whole Foods Market (they have free wireless). I was feeling a bit tired and drained of energy and it was only 5 pm. I still had to go for my appointment at 7:30 pm and wished the night was already over. The group meeting I was in seemed to be dragging for me after a while and some of the women were so chatty and I wasn’t really into it. I was happy when it finally was over and I got paid for my time. By then, it was after 9:30 pm and I had to wait a while for the bus and it was a bit chilly outside. I wasn’t sure I could make my connection to a 2nd bus I needed to take, but thankfully I timed it perfectly and didn’t have to wait the extra half-hour for it. When I got home I had to unpack everything and then I didn’t get to bed right away. Even though it was about 11 pm and I thought I was tired, I must have gotten a second wind. I was listening to some programs on the radio and turned on my computer and decided to check if I had an internet connection and it turned out I did (so that kept me up much later). It is now 1:40 am and I really need to get to sleep! I finally got to sleep at 2:10 am.

Day 39 – Friday January 08, 2010

My thirty-ninth day experiences: I woke up at 6:20 am to use the bathroom and then went back to sleep. Then at 8:10 am I got out of bed to use the bathroom again and went back in bed till 8:45 am and couldn’t sleep anymore because my mind was whirling with thoughts and ideas. I felt really spaced out when I got up and in a fog and was slow it getting my day going. My throat is dry and I have some neck tension and tightness. I did not have a bowel movement this morning and I have no underarm odor today. I am glad I did the majority of my cleaning yesterday and only have to wash one more floor today. It is an absolutely gorgeous sunny day outside and I plan to get outside for my sunning and walking in the afternoon. I was definitely dragging somewhat, but I was still able to get a lot done. I didn’t get out as early as I had hoped, so I only had limited time to spend at the library to check my emails. I got home and had to clean the floor before the Sabbath started. I was glad to finally relax and read. I did have a loose bowel movement at 6:55 pm and it was quite a bit. My energy was stable throughout the day. I went to bed finally at 9:40 pm.

Day 40 – Saturday January 9, 2010

My fortieth day experiences: I slept very well last night and didn’t wake up at all during the night. I woke at 4:55 am to use the bathroom and again at 5:50 am. Then I went back to sleep till 7:25 pm. I did not have a bowel movement this morning and still some neck tension. I noticed my tongue was coated heavier in the back and not so much in the front. It was another beautiful sunny day outside. I did some reading for a while and then went outside to do some sunning. I took care of a couple more things and then got ready to go to services at my synagogue. When I arrived at about noon time, there were some people sitting at a table because they didn’t have enough men in attendance to complete all the prayers (they needed 10 and only had 5). I talked with one of the women who was there and then sat down with the 12 others for lunch, but didn’t eat. I stayed till about 1:30 pm and then was getting tired and also wanted to go for a walk while it was still nice outside. When I went for my walk, there was actually more cloud cover and I contemplated not going at all. I decided to do so because it wasn’t cold out. After that, I stopped to visit a friend and then went home to relax and read till the Sabbath ended. I had a loose smelly bowel movement at 5:15 pm, but not a large amount and then at 5:40 pm I had to go again and it was quite a bit. I plan to get to sleep before 10 pm, as I have a busy day tomorrow. I actually went to bed at 10 pm.

Day 41 – Sunday January 10, 2010

My forty-first day experiences: I can hardly believe that I only have 2 days left 0f this 6 week journey. It was the easiest ever for me and I feel like I could keep going for many more days or weeks (?), but I don’t want to totally disappear (weight wise, that is). My food plan will be discussed on the first day back to eating, which will be Tuesday January 12th. I am making some definitive long term changes that may be radical to some, but for me are my progression of the 20 years I have been vegan. I am at the place where I am ready to embark on what for me, is the ideal way of eating (and it may become for you, as well, at the point where both your body and mind are prepared to do so and that is an important step to be aware of and not negate the fact that it can take years to come to this realization and recognition and know that it is ok whenever it happens for you!). My body has adjusted to so many different processes over the years and I am also a strong-willed and self-motivated person and know I will be successful as I step forward to the next level. Now back to my daily thoughts. I slept well last night, but seem to be awake for the last hour or so, although I did not look at the clock or take my eye shades off. I got out of bed when my alarm rang at 6:30 am. My energy is good, no bowel movement and still some heavy coating on the back of my tongue. I woke up early because I have to be out by 9 am, as I am going with a friend to a hydroponic farm to help clear some of their land for a new green house they will be creating. I didn’t actually leave till 9:30 am, so I got to take care of sunning a bit early. It was a great time today on the farm and there were 30 to 40 people there helping to clear the brush. I got a personal tour from the owner of the entire farm. We worked there till about 3 pm with breaks of course for lunch (which I didn’t have and there was a potluck and people brought lots of food to share) and drinking fluids because it was quite warm. We stayed there till about 3:30 pm and I got home by 4:30 pm. It was a phenomenal experience and I am working on doing more with this farm in the future. I had great energy all day and kept up on drinking fluids. I have one more day t0morrow and then will start eating again. I have a busy day tomorrow working with a new client and need to get to bed by 9 pm so I can wake up early tomorrow. I did not get to be at 9 pm because I was able to access the internet from home and got busy sending emails, etc. I did go to sleep at 10:10 pm.

Day 42 – Monday January 11, 2009

My forty-second day (last day) experiences: I didn’t sleep very well last night, as my mind starting thinking too much. When I did finally fall asleep, I was awoken again by the neighbor upstairs after 2:30 am. I did fall back to sleep and then woke right before my alarm rang at 6:30 am. My energy was fine and I had a small solid bowel movement. More of my tongue is coated this morning and also some neck tension. It is another beautiful sunny day outside and I hope to be able to go for a walk today, as I didn’t get the chance yesterday. I was able to get on the internet this morning at home, so I was able to check some emails. I had a busy long day and was not able to go for a walk. I have a new client I am working with that will be needing my services for the new few weeks on an intensive level. Today was our first meeting to get some things down before the cooking begins next week. I was with them from 9 am to 5 pm. I did not get to weigh myself for the last day of my cleanse, so I hope to do so tomorrow. My energy was good all day, but I am a bit drained from the long day. I was hoping to get to bed by 9 pm, but I got busy on the computer again, as I was able to get the internet at home tonight and catch up more emails. A friend and I had plans tomorrow, but I am not sure when or if they will happen so I have decided to sleep in tomorrow and not set my alarm. It is still hard to believe that today is the last day of my cleanse, as I feel like I can still go on. The fact is, I know I have yummy fruits waiting in the fridge for me to partake of and I am looking forward to it! I didn’t get to sleep till 11:10 pm and I was totally exhausted.
