Company Review- BioBag: New Food Storage Bags – Certified Compostable

BioBag- certified Compostable food storage bags formerly PolarGruppen AS started producing compostable plastics in Norway in 1993

I have had the pleasure of testing out many of the products that BioBag has on the market/are coming out soon. Thank you Jennifer Wagner, for being so generous is the samples you have sent to me. You can find a few other posts on my blog about the company (a Q & A with Jennifer) and reviews of other products. I hope I can encourage a lot MORE people to choose plastic products that are good for them and the planet because they actually aren’t made of chemical plastic ingredients. I look forward to a continued relationship with you and your company and can’t wait for the next product(s) to come out!

I had known from 2012 Expo West in Anaheim that BioBag was working on some food storage bags that were in the working phase, but not ready to sell to the public. Going back to the Expo in 2013, I stopped by their booth and saw the new products. I was so excited and got some samples to take home. I was staying with a family in the area and gave it to them to try out because I know they are interested in alternative/healthier choices.

They have three different food storage bags: fold top sandwich bags, sandwich resealable bags and quart size food storage resealable bags. I loved the look and feel of them when I first saw them at the show and was excited to try them out at home. Why does it matter that you use these bags as opposed to the “traditional” Ziplock bags? Plastics are so rampant in our world and the saddest part is that they are entering into our waters and creating a horrific state for those that inhabit the waters. The plastic breaks down to the smallest particles and the birds, fish, etc think it is food and eat it and the plastics and other disposables end up killing them. It is called “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.” Watch this for more info: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT3c6cw1Arc

We can start to do our part in “Changing the World Without Changing The Earth” – quoted from the boxes of the BioBag products. This is the best option to use (they also sell dog waste bags, lawn and garden bags, handle bags, produce bags and cling wrap) and is available. Everyone needs to “get on the bandwagon,” so to speak. These products aren’t a knockoff of the chemically-based ones and fall apart (well, that is not completely true, as they eventually break down naturally because it is certified Compostable and I have seen it happen myself in my yard) because they are made of quality material, called Mater-Bio (please search on google for an explanation or check out one of my other blog posts for BioBag that explain what it is).

Most people are willing to spend on things like cellphones, TVs, cars, jewelry and clothes. When it comes to what really matters such as your food choices, relationships, etc not all want to make the effort. There is so much we can do and it doesn’t take much effort. These products are of high quality and integrity with the extra bonus of not being made of any chemicals, whatsoever! Every household needs to buy these products because we can say a lot with our purchases. I know that I don’t want my food to be in plastic bags – would you want to be wrapped in plastic? I am sure if you are a chemist and had the material tested, you would never want to use it again!

It is time for everyone to Wake Up! Our world is continually being “Trashed” and it is time to stop, once and for all! I wish every grocery/supermarket/retailers sold these bags and also used them at their checkouts/produce department. Some may say the the cost of using the Compostable produce bags or handle bags are too expensive to use, I don’t get it! We are all causing the pollution of this planet in one way or another (yes, there are those that produce zero waste, but the amount is unfortunately, very minimal). I don’t claim to be perfect, but I try my best to do better every day with my choices and I want to pass along the information to the public.

These three new food storage bags are great especially for mothers who are packing lunch for their children or taking a sandwich/snacks to the park, beach or work. It is great to know that you don’t have to worry that the chemicals from the bag are transferring to your food. I also use the resealable bags to store dried grains and beans. The bags are very strong and they zip tight. If you use part of a fruit/vegetable and have some left over, you can put it in a food storage bag. I actually rinse them to reuse unless they get really dirty and are hard to clean out.

One thing I would like to see improved is the perforations for opening the box, as it doesn’t work that well. Once you get it open, there is no problem. I also noticed that after a while the ink on the outside of the food storage bags (has the company name printed on it with their logo) seems to rub off. I contacted Jennifer and she told me that these bags are produced at a different facility then the other ones and is looking into it. Those things are minor to me, compared to all the benefits for you and the planet there is by using them and all of their other products.

Disclaimer: I was not sponsored to write this, but I did receive a sample of the product(s). These are strictly my opinions. I only review products that I, myself would use and purchase.

If you would like to check out their products and where to purchase them, there is a link to their website on the right-hand side of the page by scrolling down to the heading Blogroll

Q & A Series: People, Products and The Health of Our Planet- Toockies – Hand-made Housewares

This Q & A is with Anna Marie Stauss CEO/President of Sinko Corporation – started production of housewares in India the spring of 2008

Great discount offer on Toockies products at the end of this post till 12/31/13.

Question #1: Tell me briefly about yourself and why you decided to get involved in the “health” industry?

I’m not in the health business, per se, but I am in the business of finding full circle sustainable products to bring into your home and to use on your skin. I strongly believe fibers created artifically have an artificial affect to any solution it was intended for.

Question #2: If you were stranded on a desert island and were allowed to take only 5 items with you (they can be food, books or specific products that are all health-related), what would they be and why?

I would take stones that can be struck to create fire. I would take coconut oil for hydration, lubrication and cooking. I would take a Toockies Scrub cloths that is multifunctional to be used as a grip for pulling, pushing or scrubbing anything as well as to hold hot items because they last for such a long time, will protect hands and feet and have so many uses. Disinfectant liquids like Iodine and bandages. Water purification unit for drinking water.

Question #3: What one message do you want to share with the people of this world that is crucial for their ultimate well-being and longevity?

Happiness that comes from simple Joy is a state of mind you can always choose. Find something to laugh about everyday and when you can’t, remember to smile because that is how you choose.

lQuestions #4: If someone could afford to purchase only one product at this moment to start their journey towards better health (food or health-related), what would you recommend and why?

The Magic Bullet blender that creates smoothies out of fresh fruit and vegetables. I’m recommending this type of product because having a spinach and fruit smoothie in the morning has been great for me.

Question #5: Tell me more about your business/company and/or products you offer to the public to help them achieve optimal health and well-being?

Our products are all vintage design hand made housewares, created from 100% organic Cotton or Jute. The benefit of having chemical and synthetic free products in your home that you use on a daily basis to shower, clean, cook and serve food with go well beyond the fact that they are practical, afforable, convenient, reusable, and reliable. Toockies products were made to last and to protect you and our planet from the alternatives while providing a Fair Trade living wage to women who would otherwise have none.

Question #6: What are your hopes/aspirations/dreams for the future health of the people and the planet?

My greatest hope for our health and the health of this planet is that we all find a way to consume less or at least produce less waste.

Question #7: Who is your greatest hero and why?
Mother Teresa is my greatest hero because she listened and acted on her hearts desire.

Question #8: Is there anything else you would like to share with the public?

We are a woman owned company and I would like to add a link to the artisan page on our web site. I want to provide a voice for the women we work with.

Raw Freedom by Frederic Patenaude – special offers on his best book ever!

My friend, Frederic’s new book is now ready. It’s his best ever. If you
don’t know why to buy this book, read what Frederic has to say.
There are some very special offers available, so don’t delay!

In Frederic’s own words:

A couple weeks ago I announced the release of my new book
“Raw Freedom: Combining the Best of Raw With Healthy Cooked
Foods for the Ultimate Diet.”

The book was on pre-order only, but now it’s ready to ship!
And the launch offer is back. Just go to

http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?Clk=5011538

The launch offer will removed in 72 hours.

Also, by popular demand, the Gold package is now offered in
digital-only version, for people who live overseas and want
to avoid shipping charges.

*Why Is This Book Different*

This book is different from anything I’ve done before. For
one, it’s not a “diet” book per se. I’m not calling it
the “Raw Freedom Diet.” It’s not a replacement for the
raw food information I’ve presented in the past.

Instead, it’s a perspective to look at raw foods and
nutrition in a more balanced way. Instead of viewing
everything as “black and white,” “raw or cooked,”
“healthy or unhealthy,” I present to you the nuances I
didn’t see before, which came from my long experience.

It’s also an alternative to the rigid 100% raw lifestyle
presented by raw food gurus as the only goal
worth striving for.

The reality is that a 100% raw food diet only works for a
tiny minority of people. Perhaps only 5% of people can
really maintain this diet over the long-term with successful
results on every level.

For most people, a 100% raw food diet can be a great “reset
button” that you can press once in a while to get your
system working properly again. It’s also a great
temporarily healing tool. But as a long-term diet, it
doesn’t work for most people.

Of course, I’m not throwing the baby with the coconut water
here! Eating a lot of raw fruits and vegetables has its
advantages.

But what is the right percentage? For some, it’s 80%. For
others, 50% only would be better. In my new book, I explore
the nine factors that you can look at to determine which
percentage of raw foods is optimal for you.

*Who Is This Book For?*

This new book is not for everybody. If you feel like your
current diet is giving you all the health, energy, and
happiness that you desire, I don’t think there’s any
reason for you to change.

But if you’re frustrated by your previous attempts to eat
healthier or have tried a raw food diet without success, you
may need to start changing your relationship with food.

The truth is… anybody who’s dramatically changed their diet
has had to exert a tremendous amount of control over what
they eat. This is great to make changes happen, but it can
lead to pernicious results.

When you think too much about what you eat, and you control
everything you eat and set a million rules for yourself that
are hard to follow and easy to break… you are altering your
relationship with food. You are creating stress.

In America today (and most other countries), people have a
totally unhealthy relationship with food. They eat either
with guilt (I’m eating something unhealthy I shouldn’t),
without pleasure (I’m forcing this salad down because I
know it’s good for me), or with reckless abandon (who cares
about diet! Let’s just be happy. Pass me another serving of
bacon!).

Everyone is obsessed with diet in some way or another. Think
about the obsession with skim milk and fat-free items, diet
colas, chicken salad and other carb-free dishes, the
avoidance of gluten and GMOs, and so on.

Of course, the alternative to not being obsessed about diet
is to eat anything and just end up sick and obese. There
seems to be no happy medium.

Raw foodists think they have found all the answers, but then
their diet forces them to a life of seclusion where
traveling becomes impossible, social gatherings very
difficult to manage, and even though they’ve solved some
important health problems, new ones start to appear, like a
mouthful of cavities or low-body temperature.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers. But I’ve been so
stressed about food for the better part of my life that I
knew I had to find some answers. My new book “Raw Freedom”
presents that perspective.

If you’re curious about raw foods, but find it too
difficult to follow, or you’re just tired of going back and
forth between “perfection” and binge eating, then you
should read my book.

I’m not going to ask you to believe everything I say. My
experience won’t necessarily match your experience. But
you’ll likely find some important answers in the 280 pages
of the book.

Get it now while it’s on sale with all the goodies at:

Book Review – The Science of Eating Raw by Swayze Foster

Book Review:The Science of Eating Raw by Swayze Foster

Mindy’s quote: “Swayze has done all the research/hard work all you have to do is simply read and apply it to your life!”

I am happy to say that I was one of the people who received an advanced free copy of the book along with all the bonuses because I gave a testimonial that was used in the back of the book. This book has been a long time coming and Swayze has done an excellent job! You can tell from all the proofs/references that are included in the back of the book (68 pages worth – WOW!) She leaves no stone unturned when it comes to sharing with the skeptics and even those like me who has been a vegan for over two decades, but don’t have all the answers. You can not refute the truth and the myths/fallacies, either.

Swayze has covered everything from “soups to nuts,” so to speak. Whether you are not sure you ought to eat low-fat, feel that eating lots of fruit has too much “sugar,” why you ought to be vegan, why eat raw, why no grains, why fruit doesn’t cause cancer, etc. She also covers topics that have been “closeted” by many other so called raw food gurus and experts such as a whole chapters on supplementation and nutritional deficiencies (to make sure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to thrive).

The chapter on essential micronutrients gives a sample raw low fat vegan menu for a day that breaks down the amount of dietary guidelines for each vitamin/mineral and each meal. It is great to see from these charts that you can get the nutrients your body needs when you eat this way. In another chapter, Swayze gives a sample 7 day raw vegan menu plan and the percentage of carbohydrates-protein-fat to eat in one day. You will see that you can be satisfied/sated and also stay within the realm of eating low-fat (according to 80-10-10 program initiated by Dr. Doug Graham and in his book, 80/10/10 that is available on Amazon.com).

Swayze also makes a great point in mentioning that you need to have testing done to make sure you are absorbing certain nutrients (especially for Vitamin D and B12 of which there are endless discrepancies: “to take or not to take a supplement that is a BIG question?”).

From reading this book in its entirety, I see that Swayze has covered “all the bases!” Your part is easy because all you have to do in buy it and read it. The information is clear, informative, straight-forward and relevant. At a time when so many people are searching desperately for answers and keep coming up against so many “brick walls,” so to speak (the doctors, hospitals, drugs, surgeries are not giving them health or happiness), it is now possible to get a better understanding on how to approach the care of your own body with the simple tools that Swayze has “spelled” out in the book in such a well-thought out manner.

There is TMI (Too Much Information) accessible to us, especially by way of the Internet and not all of it is good, positive, real or true (especially when it comes to your health). Some of the great resources out there are people like Dr. Doug Graham, Swayze Foster, Dr. Neal Barnard, T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Tonya Zavasta, etc. YOU MUST DO YOUR RESEARCH TO FIND THE TRUTH!

I doesn’t have any criticism about the content of this book only that there are some typos, wrong words used, reference number was printed in large type face when ought to have been small (I can help you, Swayze, with that for the next book you write, as I have excellent proofreading, editing skills, etc – I am a writer, too, it case you could not tell by now! 🙂

Swayze mentions a couple of products to use for your dental hygiene. A great one that I use is from a company called Essential Oxygen. The owner created the product because of her poor dental health and the lack of anything on the market that would help her. You can read my company review by clicking on this link: https://rawsomegal.wordpress.com/2012/05/23/company-review-essential-oxygen-organic-brushing-rinse-and-food-grade-peroxide/

Also mentioned in another part of the book, is the consumption of green leafy vegetables. Swayze mentions about eating spinach for a week or longer without any problems. I disagree with that statement – I don’t have the scientific proof to show here, but have heard from numerous reliable sources that it is important to rotate your greens because in nature the plant use a mechanism to help them continue to self-propagate whereas they has small amount of poisons on them (doesn’t harm you in small amounts) and if you eat too much of that plant it will no longer taste good to you. I can give a personal example as I enjoy eating baby spinach straight from the bag without putting anything on it. If I eat too much (it is easier to tell when you are only consuming one food at a time and not mixing with many other ingredients) then my mouth becomes dry and I don’t want to eat anymore of the spinach. It is east to rotate your greens, as there are endless choices, from Swiss chard to Red Leaf lettuce, Romaine lettuce, Spinach, Kale, Collard Greens, etc.

Besides Swayze’s new book, she has a great website where you can find numerous free articles, videos, etc. There is a never ending stream of knowledge we can garner from others. No matter how much we think we know there is always more to learn. Always keep your mind open like a child, but still remember that you may need to filter things out, as well. Not everyone believes that this lifestyle it optimum or the best, but if it works for you and you feel great and are getting all your nutrients, then don’t let alone tell you otherwise.

Disclaimer: I was not sponsored to write this, but I did receive a free sample of the product(s). These are strictly my opinions. I only review products that I, myself would use and purchase.
