Company Review-Toadily Handmade:100% Natural Beeswax Candles

Toadily Handmade – 100% Natural Beeswax Candles
In business since 2006

A few years ago I was looking for beeswax tea-lights to use for my Sabbath. I research and shop for numerous products on, as their prices are great and I also have lots of my credit card rewards linked there, so I have lots of credit on there to spend. I found a box of 36 beeswax candles on there. The price was right and shipping was free! I was very happy with the product. Each one lasts about 5 hours or more and is great for purifying the air since it gives off negative ions (more is written about the benefits below by the owner of the company).

When I used up the first box, I ordered another box. In the process of using this box, I have some problem where a few of the wicks burned out and I couldn’t use the candles. I did not throw them out because I didn’t want to waste them and planned to contact the company. I finally got around to emailing and received a call from the owner, Susan, the next day. We had a wonderful conversation and it turns out, she experienced the same problem and she makes the candles! She said it can happen and was very kind in sending me replacement candles and also replacement wicks, as she said I can take out the other ones that burned out and put the new ones in. I was so impressed with Susan’s consideration and customer service that I wanted to include her in my company reviews.

I will continue to use her candles for the quality she offers and the great service. You can read more about her products on the link to her website that is listed under the title Blogroll on the right-hand side of this page. Susan is offering a great discount of 10% off all products through August 5, 2012 to my readers for her products using the code BEESWAX.

This was written by the owner of Toadily Handmade, Susan Short. Thanks for sending this information for me to share with the public!

Here is how she got started in her business:

Growing up I was always doing something, sewing, crafts, baking, anything creative. I’ve tried my hand at making cards, gourmet candy, painting, and when my kids were younger I enjoyed coming up with new ideas for teacher gifts. Then one night about 7 years ago I was at a holiday boutique with a friend and she picked up a pair of hand rolled beeswax candles and said, “You can make these!” I had never seen anything like them before, so I went home and searched online for supplies and within a week I had put together several candle centerpieces which I gave to my friend to use for her Christmas party.

When I first started I had no idea how wonderful beeswax was, I thought I was just making candles. Over the years I have really come to appreciate the health benefits of burning beeswax candles. It feels great knowing that I’m not only able to make something pretty to be enjoyed, but something healthy and sustainable as well. I feel so lucky to be able to call this my job!

Here is the info she wrote about beeswax candles:

Candles can be a powerful tool for relaxation and meditation, but not
all candles are alike. Paraffin candles are a byproduct of petroleum
and although they may smell good, they are scented with chemicals.
They release toxins as they burn and are not a healthy choice.

Why Beeswax? Beeswax candles are 100% natural and are the
cleanest burning candles available. Not only do they burn without
producing soot, they actually clean the air as they burn!

Ions in the air can affect our mood, energy level and health. Negative
ions actually feel good! Unfortunately, the air we breathe is full of
positive ions like pollens, smoke, dust, mold, viruses and other
harmful allergens. As beeswax candles burn they produce negative
ions that attach to the unhealthy positive ions, causing them to fall to
the ground and thus providing cleaner air. People who suffer from
asthma or allergies can enjoy the peace and enjoyment that beeswax
candles provide, while also enjoying cleaner air. A very healthy

Beeswax is a byproduct of honey production. It has been estimated
that bees must fly 150,000 miles (that’s about 6 times around the
earth!) and consume about 6 pounds of honey to produce 1 pound of
wax. For every 100 pounds of honey a beekeeper harvests, only 1-2
pounds of beeswax is produced. Honeybees are amazing, so it should
be no surprise that beeswax candles are so wonderful!

This helps to understand why beeswax candles may seem more
expensive than other candles. The truth is, beeswax actually burns
slower than other waxes, so dollar for dollar you will get a better
return when you choose beeswax. In addition to being healthy,
beeswax candles have a beautiful bright flame, rarely drip, and have a
subtle honey scent. No need to add any fragrance as nature has
already done that!

When people ask me what my favorite style candle is I almost always
choose the tea-light. It’s simple, comes in it’s own container, has a
burn time of about 4 hours and burns beautifully.

The most helpful tip I can offer anyone, especially those who may be
new to beeswax candles, is to always light the candle at the base of
the wick. This allows a small wax pool to develop and begin to fuel the
wick (remember, beeswax melts more slowly so it takes a few seconds
longer to light the wick properly). I also suggest using a utility lighter,
not matches.

Any questions? Please feel free to call or email, I’ll be happy to help!

Company Review: Bambooee – Reusable Bamboo Towel

Bambooee – reusable bamboo towel In business since 2011

This is one of the best discoveries I made at Expo West in Anaheim in 2011, but was unable to do a review of this product till 2012. Why, you ask? It was no fault of my own, as I requested a sample be sent to me, but it never was. I was glad to come across the product again this year and was able to get some samples to try out. I have never used anything like this before and although I did see Noam demonstrate and explain the many uses of the bamboo towel, I had to test it out for myself.

The one word that has come to mind for me to describe this product is, AMAZING! I can say that about many things, but the reason I have chosen to do so here is because of the scope in the long-term benefits this product has for the health of the planet. Before I get into my own personal use of the bamboo towel, I want to mention briefly about bamboo (you can read more about it on the company website and you can Google “bamboo”). If you didn’t already know, bamboo is the world’s fastest growing plant, requires no pesticides, insecticides or fertilizers and the latest testing showed that one roll really replaces 286 rolls of standard paper towels!. All that speaks volumes to me because of my consciousness with how our personal choices affect Mother Earth.

Now, you would ask, “what makes this product so special besides what I stated above?”. Here is where I share my experience as to why this product is a “cut above the rest,” and ought to be used by everyone! First off, I wish I had marked down for myself the day I started using one of the bamboo towels (I am stating this here because it will matter, shortly) so you will know how long I have been using the same one. Yes, I have been using THE SAME ONE for over a month now, that much I know! Again, I say AMAZING!

The towel seems to be virtually indestructible. The fibers are so strong and it never falls apart. It can be used for a multitude of purposes, as is written on the website. I choose to use mine to wipe up my kitchen counters, sink and also the drain board of my dish rack. I was told that it works better when it is wet and then rung out. That is how I have been using it every night when I clean up before going to bed. I do not have a washing machine (yes, bambooee is machine washable) so I simply rinse it out every night and hang it up to dry. It has never gotten dirty to the point where I feel the need to use soap to clean it, either.

One thing I have done, is smell the towel each time after I use it. Sounds crazy? Not at all! I’m sharing this with you, so you understand the difference between this product and other “towels” you may be using. Whenever I would go visit my parents, my Mom would use a washcloth to wipe up around the kitchen sink, as the water would splash and wet the counters. The problem was with the cotton cloth. For one, it wasn’t organic (the bamboo towel is). Second, the cloth would get very wet and even when it was hung to dry overnight, it stank worse then a skunk (by the way, skunk smell is not offensive to me) the next day. My Mom was doing her do diligence by washing the cloths using natural laundry soap and they always smelled fresh and clean afterwards, but never stayed that way once it was wet.

I have had a similar experience with using a sponge to wipe up my kitchen counters. I noticed that after a while of using the same one (yes, I did let it dry overnight), it would start to smell foul and I would have to wash it with soap. If I used the sponge without cleaning it first, the foul smell would transfer to my counters – Yuck! Here is where the bamboo towel exceeded my expectations. Remember, I mentioned earlier, that I smelled the towel after using it. The bamboo towel has never had a smell to it, even after using the same one for over a month and I have never had to use soap to get the stink out, because there is none! One thing I attributed this to, is the fact that it is organic and also nothing is ever added to the soil when it grows. Truly AMAZING! I will continue using the same bamboo towel to see how long it will last.

Now that you know about Bambooee, I hope you will check it out for yourself. Besides the bamboo towel, they also sell bibs, burp cloths and baby wipes. To order any products and get more information, click on the link under the heading Blogroll on the right-hand side of this page.

Disclaimer: I was not sponsored to write this, but I did receive a sample of the product(s). These are strictly my opinions. I only review products that I, myself would use and purchase.

Beautiful on Raw – Tonya Zavasta

Beautiful on Raw – Tonya Zavasta
Raw Food advocate, Beauty and anti-aging secrets
In business since 2003

I do not recall from whom I found out about Tonya Zavasta (I know it was on the Internet), but I am sure glad I did! I started subscribing to her monthly email newsletter and found/find the information to be invaluable. I also read at the bottom of the email that they were looking for people who would organize events that she can speak at regarding raw foods, beauty and anti-aging secrets. I was very interested and contacted Tonya. I set up some events in San Diego during 2008 and that is when I first met this incredible woman! Whether you are a newbie to raw foods or a “seasoned veteran”, you can and will always learn something new. Never discount that regardless of the amount of knowledge you have about any/many different subjects/topics, someone may share with you something you have never heard before. Keep that “childlike” enthusiasm alive and always have a “beginners mind,” and take that “whatever course 101” again and again!

I was able to garner some time alone before the event to speak with Tonya. I enjoyed our conversation and listened intently to what she had to say. She has an incredible story/journey of recovery from a physical deformity and completely turned her life around. A “side affect” to that was how her body transformed in a few years and the pictures are WOW! because she looks “model” beautiful and years younger then the photo taken pre-raw food. Tonya did/does not “rest on her laurels,” when it comes to finding new ways to improve her health and beauty and share that with the public. She has written books and developed products (that are researched with degrees of intensity that are commendable and show in the depth of information in her books and the highest quality of her products). I have read Tonya’s books and tried many of the products with great results.

All of Tonya’s books – both physical and e-books – have so much to offer you the reader. Besides the research and depths of proof to her information, she is all humorous (that came through in her presentations and added a lightness and levity amongst the group who attended). It is probably time for me to go back and re-read the 4 books I have and also the e-books. As much as I am a person who is self-motivated, it is always helpful to get a “refresher” once in a while. There is so much amazing information in Tonya’s books that I don’t think I remember it all after I read them years ago.

I had the pleasure of using Tonya’s facial exercise program and wrote a testimonial about my experience which is posted on her site. I have also used her anti-aging face cream, facial brush for glowing complexion, multi-herbal green clay masque, masque removal brush, skin rejuvenator/rolling bed of pins, scalp tonic with cayenne pepper and mustard greens extracts, bamboo comb and siberian pine chewing gum. Everything Tonya sells is made without any compromises. If she will not use it in/on her own body/skin then you will not find it being sold on her website. She told me that when she developed her first product, the face cream, it took a long time to find someone who was willing to formulate it with ONLY the ingredients that she specified and nothing else! It it easy to just put some chemically enhanced ingredients together, but you will come out with crap and Tonya was/is never willing to do that. When you walk your talk, you become an example people want to follow/emulate. I know, I do and consider Tonya a friend and mentor.

You can read more about this exceptional woman by clicking on either of the two photo links on the right-hand column of this page that will take you directly to Tonya’s website. There are an abundance of free articles to read on health, beauty, etc. There are also recipes on there to help you on your raw food journey or give you new ideas, if you are already living the lifestyle. You can also check out Tonya’s videos where she demonstrate different beauty techniques. I highly recommend you sign up for her monthly e-newsletter to receive the latest news, articles and the best information you will receive as you continue on you life journey for the best health and beauty.

Company Review: Daco Corp. – Foot-Eez Sandals

Daco Corporation – Foot Eez Sandals
In business over 50 years

I am not someone who normally shops at drug stores for shoes, of all things. I have bought most of my footwear at places like Target, Payless, etc. I have bought things at Longs Drugs, near where I live such as white vinegar for cleaning, batteries and housewares. I sometimes like to walk through the aisles to see if there is anything that catches my eye.

One day, in 2008, while walking through Longs Drugs, I noticed a rack with shoes (more like sandals). I have bought beach thongs before at Longs, but I am always looking for ones that have more cushioning and support. I checked out the sandals and liked what I saw. It is made of natural rubber material, velcro closure and it will form to your feet. If I have/had foot problems (which I, thankfully don’t) it would also be helpful for me. They had a couple of different styles that I liked. I tried a pair on and I instantly LOVED them. As I walked around I felt like I was floating on springs. I bought a pair and from that day forward, it has been the only shoe/sandal I wear or would want to wear. I have put on other shoes that are uncomfortable and always go back to my Foot-Eez.

I have worn 2 of the styles, one that has one velcro closure and has a tan coloring on the top and the other with 2 velcro closure that is all black. The second one has been the one that I have liked the most and wear them exclusively. I have seen another woman wearing the same shoes I have on the bus, as she has foot problems and these help her. I have always gotten compliments on these sandals and tell people, “you can get them at Longs Drugs for 20 dollars (the price has increased though, since that time) and they have different styles.”

Once I was “hooked” on these sandals I let my Mom and Dad know about them and said they have to get a pair. They don’t live near me and they are not available where they reside, so I bought a pair for each of them and they are now loyal customers (I wear mine as outside shoes and go through a pair much faster then they do, as my parents use them as indoor slippers). My Mom was sold on them as soon as she put them on. My Dad was a much harder “sell,” and wouldn’t even put them on when I first gave them to him. He even went so far as saying, “I don’t need them.” When I finally convinced him to try them on he liked them a lot!

One issue I have had with these sandals, is that although the tag says it resists odor, it really does not. I sent an email to the company and also researched online to get a phone number to call them. I want to continue to use these sandals and hope they can improve on the only thing that I don’t like. The owner of the company, Steve, was wonderful to talk to and I kept his contact information for future reference (it was definitely fortuitous, as I didn’t know at the time that I would be calling him because I couldn’t get them at Longs anymore).

In 2009, Longs Drugs was merging and becoming CVS Pharmacy. I didn’t know at the time that I would no longer be able to get any more Foot-Eez and I was laissez faire about purchasing another pair(s) when I didn’t need any. When the transition was in process, I still noticed the racks with the sandals and I figured I had plenty of time to get some when I needed them. Then one day, I went into what is now CVS and I didn’t see any of the Foot-Eez and was totally bummed! I actually called around to a number of stores in my area. It turns out that I was able to get a pair in my size from another store and they held it for me till I arrived. Now I would be on my own to get more sandals. In hindsight, I am glad I kept the contact information for Daco Corp.

When it got closer to the time that I needed to get more sandals (in September 2009) I called Steve and he said he’d be happy to ship me a couple of pairs and I received them the next day. He told me that as a BIG FAN, I should go into CVS and ask them to start carrying the sandals again. I know that whenever I went to my local Longs Drugs there were likely out of my size and I was able to find them at another one that perhaps people weren’t getting that size as much. I know that people were buying them because the rack would be filled and then a couple weeks later would be half empty.

I am asking CVS to start carrying Foot-Eez sandals again, as I know I am not the only one that misses being able to go to my local store in the neighborhood and being able to buy them when I need to. Not only does it sell well, but it is also helpful for those who really do need them to help ease their foot problems and most of all, the price is right!

So far I have not had any success in getting these sandals into CVS.
In the meantime, if you would like to read more about the products or purchase these sandals (they have them for men and women), you can do so on their website – You will not be disappointed, I can almost promise that (even though you can’t try them prior to buying)! You will probably end up wearing them all the time and not want to put any other shoes/sandals on you feet. You can find the website on the right-hand side of this page under the title Blogroll.
