Topic: Children Should Be _______

Monday March 15, 2010

This one we all know, but I don’t agree with what is says, “seen and not heard.” I would rather say, “ able to voice their opinion and matter!” Children are aware of what is going on around them at all times from the time that they are born. Even though they can’t speak or say how they feel out loud, they are absorbing everything from the surroundings like a sponge. It is important that a child feels that he/she matters because if they don’t genuinely know that as a youngster, then can grow up and never want to share anything because they are always told to be quiet. This can lead to grave problems later in life (such as children not fitting in with others and being ostracized and that leading to mental problems of which they feel they have no one to turn to for help and even though the signs are there and obvious the acting out occurs that can cause irreversible damage/pain/death to themselves or to others). Always include your children from the time they are able to speak and ask them, “how to you feel about going to ____?” Or, “what would you like for dinner?” Or, “would you like to help Mommy/Daddy to prepare the salad, etc?” Of course, at varying times in their life, as they mature, there will be different things that you will ask for their opinions/suggestions/ideas about. Make the lives of children important always! You (meaning Moms) took the time (9 months of carrying the baby) to bring this child into the world and you can continue to take the time to show that they are THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN YOUR WORLD! For the Dads of this world, you also were/are part of making this child, as well. Be involved in your children’s life, the same way that the Mom would be. Love, nurture and respect your child and above all else, LET THEM SPEAK!
