My Cleansing Repertoire – Using Mineral-Rich Carlsbad Water – Reactions and Results

For the next 3 days, I used a different water that is even higher in alkalinity, at a pH of 8.76. I want to see if there is a difference in how I feel and how much I drink. This water is available at a spa in Carlsbad, CA. It was discovered a long time ago and you can read more about the source at www.carlsbadalkalinewater.com

My second 3 days using Carlsbad Alkaline Water Only

Day 1 – Sunday February 26. 2012
Today is the 4th day of my cleanse. I decided that I want to use both types of high alkaline water and drink them separately so I can really tell if there is any difference. My cleanse is for a total of 12 days, so I decided to do half on just water and half on coconut water and water (mostly/all with the Carlsbad water, since I have more of it). I am drinking 3 days on each of the two types of water to give my body some time to feel the “affects,” so to speak.

When I had my first drink of water this morning, the taste was not the same as the previous 3 days, it did not taste as sweet as I thought it would. It still had a smooth taste and I do not have any headaches or hunger issues. I did initially get this water in a 5 gallon plastic bottle and then transferred it to glass bottles and jars within a short time after. I don’t know if this had any bearing on the taste of the water. I do not have a 5 gallon glass jug, but if I do decide to consume more of this water in the future, I may consider purchasing one or more 1 gallon bottles (then I will see if it changes the taste).

Since I have this water in many different types of jars and bottles, I am using the ones I know the size of , so I can still keep track of the total I drink for the day.

Consumption for the day: Total – 96 oz/12 cups/¾ of a gallon/3 quarts
9:30 am – 11 am – 16 oz
11:15 am – 2:10 pm – 32 oz
3 pm – 6:35 pm – 32 oz
7 pm – 8:30 pm – 16 oz

I drank more water then I did yesterday (76.4 oz). I don’t know if it is because I needed it or because of the higher alkalinity. It will be interesting to see how much of the water I drink tomorrow.

Day 2- Monday February 27. 2012

Today is the 5th day of my cleanse. I started out drinking the water almost an hour later then yesterday because I was busy talking on the phone and didn’t feel the need to. I am still feeling fine with no headaches or “feel” hungry. I believe the water is helping me very much, especially since it has a higher pH.

Consumption for the day: Total – 80 oz/10 cups/2 ½ quarts
10:25 am – 11:05 am – 16 oz
11:30 am – 2:45 pm – 32 oz
3:50 pm – 6:40 pm – 32 oz

I drank less water today then yesterday, as I was occupied with other things (phone, computer, etc) and also spent more time lying down in bed so didn’t need as much water. Also, I am going to bed earlier tonight because I have a lot to do tomorrow and would rather not have to get up during the night to use the bathroom.

Day 3- Tuesday February 28, 2012

Today, is the 6th day of my cleanse. I started drinking water earlier this morning, but then had a lapse for a while because I was working on the computer and didn’t feel thirsty, either. Still no side effects like a headache or hunger pangs, so that is good. The water is keeping me “nourished” and hydrated.

Consumption for the day: Total – 91 oz/11.3 cups/ almost 3 quarts
9:10 am – 10:30 am – 24 oz
12 pm – 4:35 pm – 27 oz
4:35 pm – 7:05 pm – 40 oz

I drank quite a bit more then yesterday and felt well hydrated, but a few ounces less than 2 days ago.

Now this gives you a sense of what it takes to stay hydrated and how good you can still feel with only drinking water.

Namaste!

Don’t Desert Me – Exciting and Educational Info Coming Soon!

I apologize for my lack of posts and it is definitely not for lack of words, on my part. I have endless information to share and keep you interested. I hope you have not already flown the coop, so to speak and stood me up (by not coming back to read some of my older posts, as there is so much information that would take weeks to finish reading).

I am formulating some exciting information that I will be sharing with you, via interviews with people/companies I respect and admire who are bringing great products and perspective to the natural health community. This will be done in the form of a written Q & A that will be posted (hopefully on a weekly basis) to this website.

The title for this series is called, “People, Products and The Health of Our Planet”: Interviews with pioneers on the path to superior health- who they are and the messages/products they are sharing with the world.

Stay tuned as I plan to begin this series in October 2011 (if all goes according to plans and I can get in touch with the people I would like to interview).

Namaste!
Much Luv and Gratitude

Topic: Let Food Be Thy Medicine and Medicine Be Thy Food (Hippocrates)

Thursday February 18, 2010

Here is another great quote from the Father of Medicine who also created the Hippocratic Oath (which in my honest opinion, has now become the “Hypocritical” Oath, as doctors do not follow his guidelines for treating people {that is what they are and not simply ‘patients’ as they are called} who are in need of medical care. Another thing that is “wrong” with the medicine in America, is that it has become sick care. There are countries in the East (I know that it used to work this way in the past and maybe it still occurs with some traditional doctors) where the doctor would not be paid if the person comes to them and is not well. Only when they are “symptom-free” did the doctor get to collect money. This makes sense to me! How about you? Please be sure to give me your feedback. For one thing, I do not ascribe to the western way of medicine a nd don’t have health insurance or see a doctor (I am not telling you to follow what I do, merely telling you the way I choose to live my life). I know that doctors can help with a diagnosis and also for emergency situations (like fixing broken bones) they can be a G-d send (as was for me when I broke my left elbow over 10 years ago). Getting back to the quote from Hippocrates, it makes perfect sense to me logically that he was a genius, even back then (he lived 400 years before J.C.)! His message is ageless and timeless! It is a shame that so many people have to go on all these diet programs like Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slimfast , etc. If they would follow the principle that Hippocrates stated in the above quote, in layman’s terms it would be: food = medicine; medicine = food. I know that the best foods to consume are mostly fruits and vegetables, preferably in their raw form. Take this into consideration and find even one fruit or vegetable that you like and would be willing to have more of it everyday and keep building on that idea. If you are an adult, think about the fruits you loved as a kid. What child did not like watermelon? How about grapes? (of course when they are in season is the best time to buy them). Next, you can try a fruit you have never eaten. If you aren’t sure you’ll like it, when you go to the supermarket, farmers market, etc ask if you can get a piece of it to try. More than likely, you will be able to do so. Do some research on the internet for exotic fruits or tropical fruits and find out about the many options that are available to you.

Topic: We Must Be The Change We Want To See

(Mahatma Gandhi)

Wednesday February 17, 2010

I have decided to start using some famous quotes as topics for my blog. They can be very powerful and profound and really make us THINK! The quote from Gandhi, is one with such a strong message. When I first embarked on my vegan journey 20 years ago, I formally studied macrobiotics, I was so excited about this lifestyle that I wanted to share it with the world and change everyone. That was a short-lived thought, which I decided was not the optimal way to “spread the wealth.” At the time (1993), I had not, as yet, figured out the best way to let others know. Then I had an epiphany, when someone asks me a question about anything related to health or my thoughts on a certain food (whether I think it is good or what I know about it), that is the OPEN DOOR! This is the moment I realize that the person wants to learn more and perhaps make a change in their lifestyle choices. Relating to the quote above, is another way for others to follow in your footsteps. If you walk your talk and people see how you act, behave and how healthy you look, they will want to know what the “secrets” are to achieving this for themselves. Of course, nothing is truly hidden, but sometimes needs to be emphasized and brought up again or perhaps rephrased to make it simpler to understand. Eating healthy and looking the part, isn’t rocket science. Mother earth has provided us with a vast abundance of incredible foods growing in the trees and in the ground that are full of nutrients to keep us vital and energized. Start exploring the many choices available and then you will be looked at as an “example” others will want to emulate, too!

Topic: Laughter Is The Best Medicine

Tuesday February 16, 2010

I decided to talk about this topic because it is one that is very important. I say this, because there is someone (and maybe more than one person) who has written a book by that very title, Norman Cousins. He overcame a serious ailment/dis-ease in his life via laughter. I would highly recommend that you read his book and find out more about his challenges and imminent recovery. As children, we would all laugh at anything and everything, especially when we hear others, we’d copy-cat them. Laughter is also contagious! I absolutely love to laugh for no reason at all. Well, there really is a reason, and that is because it makes me feel good! You build up your endorphins (the happy hormones), get a cardiovascular workout if it is a long-lasting belly laugh, strengthens your abdominal muscles, relieves pain, etc (there are many other benefits that I have not mentioned, but these are the ones I know of).

I never knew about laughter yoga, until a workshop was given at my health food store. You can find a free group in your area by checking the website I listed.

This information is taken from the website www.laughteryoga.org

Laughter Yoga is a revolutionary idea – simple and profound. An exercise routine, it is sweeping the world and is a complete wellbeing workout.

The brainchild of Dr. Madan Kataria, a Physician from Mumbai, India, launched the first Laughter Club at a Park on March 13, 1995, with merely a handful of persons. Today, it has become a worldwide phenomenon with more than 6000 Social Laughter Clubs in about 60 countries.

Laughter Yoga combines Unconditional Laughter with Yogic Breathing (Pranayama). Anyone can Laugh for No Reason, without relying on humor, jokes or comedy. Laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a group; with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter. The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter. One gets the same physiological and psychological benefits.

Other great websites I found are:

www.laughtertherapy.com

www.laughterremedy.com

Also check out www.youtube.com and search for videos on laughter yoga and it will help you start to laugh for no reason.

Please be sure to spread the wealth, as health is wealth and what better way to do so then by giggling out loud and know that you are having fun while you are feeling naturally high and happy!

LAUGH TILL IT HURTS AND YOU EYES WELL UP AND THEN YOU WILL KNOW HOW GOOD IT FEELS!

Topic: You Are What You_____ – Part II

Monday February 15, 201o

I decided that I need to bring back this fill in the blank topic, as there is more to it, then what I wrote the previous time (that being on Wed. Feb. 10th). I was sitting down to eat my dinner salad meal at the table (seated next to my Mom, as I am visiting my parents and others). I noticed how she is eating her meal and how I am. There was quite a differential (which I will discuss in more detail shortly). Getting back to what I would fill in the blank with for the topic above would be, digest and more so, what you assimilate and absorb. So, as a was observing my Mom eating, while I was, as well, here is what I noticed (ok, Mom, I am not trying to be negative, merely giving my feedback to help you and others, too, to know how to better eat for optimal abs0rption). Number 1 – Her posture was not perfect and I sit more on the edge of my chair so I sit up straight (better for digestion). Number 2- she does not seem to put down her utensils (fork, spoon, etc) after taking a bite to give herself the time to chew and sometimes even put in more then one forkful into her mouth at one time. I on the other hand tend to put my utensils down after each fork full (I usually eat with chopsticks) and set it down on another plate so I have to spend the time to pick it up again to get more food. Number 3- My Mom doesn’t chew her food for very long, whereas, I will chew it till it is mostly liquid in my mouth (as that is where the digestion actually occurs and your enzymes are activated) and will not put any more food in my mouth until that mouthful is completely masticated. Number 4- when you “inhale” your food, as my Mom tends to do, you are not absorbing the nutrients and usually need to keep eating more and more food, as you are always hungry. Number 5- Another way you know that you are not assimilating your food properly, is when your bowel movements tend to be loose and you can see pieces of the food floating in the water (don’t get me wrong, that has happened to me on many occasions, I am not perfect, so I share with you my challenges, as well. When I chew my food better, I notice that my movements are solid and I barely have the need for any toilet paper. Number 6- I also noticed that it is best to sit quietly without any distractions from TV, radio, phones, computer and simply “plug in” to your food and the energy it is giving you and the sensations you feel while chewing and the wonderful flavors and colors (I eat lots of green leafy vegetables and other wonderful non-sweet fruits for dinner (cucumbers, tomat0es, red bell peppers) and sometimes sweet fruits, as well – if I don’t have fat in my salad). Number 7- Giving yourself a few minutes at the end of the meal to reflect on your time, without “jumping” up so quickly to go to the next project. Sit and relish in the beauty of life and the gifts you have been given. The same can be said for when you sit down to your meal. Try to have everything you need on the table before you start so there is no reason to get up at all once you have started, as it disrupts the flow of your meal. Number 8- Give thanks in whatever way you can/know before you eat your food and afterwards. Since much has gone into getting it to you, so lets show our gratitude. If we can all have the attitude of gratitude in life for everything and anything, life would be filled with much love, joy, health, happiness, peace, prosperity, abundance and beauty. Do what you can to make this so! Please send your comments and what you would fill in the blank with for the topic above.

Topic: Don’tCountYour __________

Friday February 12, 2010

I am continuing with the fill in the blank topics and this one, I thin you know what it is. If you don’t I will clue you in, the blank line would be- chickens before they hatch. Now I don’t eat animal foods at all, as you already know if you have been reading my blog from the beginning. I have been vegan for 20 years and have no interest in eating any kinds of animal foods. I don’t know if others could/would have the self-discipline that I have (but knowing that meat, dairy, fish, etc are toxic to the body was enough reason for me to stop, ‘cold turkey,’ so to speak and not because of any ailments, merely the understanding that prevention is the best cure). There are those who would wait till there is a ‘challenge’ and then implement the change. I say, “Why wait!” Have the quality of life that you deserve and want while you are living on this planet as a human being. Now back to what I’d fill in the blank with – situation to be one of despair and demise, rather think positive and remove the disguise. So what am I truly telling you here? We all have options and nobody can make us do, say, act, eat or drink anything we don”t want to (unless you are in a life-threatening situation and must follow someone’s orders to be spared). Also don’t blame others for your own situation. OWN IT! YOU CREATED IT! NOW YOU CHOOSE TO CHANGE IT! Make your life the best it can be! Have people around your that lift your spirits and not bring you down with their feelings of being down and out. Don’t wallow in sorrow, rather sing a happy tune and dance around in your room!

Have a super-duper-cala-fraga-listic-sp-ala-docious of a weekend (you may not have heard this ever, it all depends on what generation of life you are in right now)! Next post will be on Monday.

Topic: 2 Be Or Not 2 Be_________

Thursday February 11, 2010

It is exactly one month since I completed my 42 day cleanse. It is hard to even fathom that I did it and accomplished it successfully on my own (if you click on the archives for December 2009, you can read my journal I posted from day 1 and all the way to the end. I also write about my transition back to food). If you are someone who is interested in fasting and would like to do it under supervision, there is a great place in Panama that does it for various amounts of time and also helps you transition back to food using the raw vegan diet. Check it out – http://www.tanglewoodwellnesscenter.com/

Now back to my topic, which I continue to use the fill in the blank theme. Again a familiar phrase, this time from Shakespeare, but I changed the way it is spelled by using numbers instead of the actual word. I would fill it in with, there is no question? What do I mean by that? and I even put a question mark at the end. Some people may inquire about their own “beingness” (or reason for being alive) on this planet, but I know that I do have a definite purpose here. Mine is to spread the knowledge and benefits of eating and living a healthy lifestyle. Whether it is through my blog, presentations, lectures, workshops, classes, private chef services or simply talking to someone I meet on the bus, airplane, street, in the health food store, etc. I don’t know whether everyone I meet or speak to, will actually implement anything or everything of what I tell them, but that doesn’t make me stop doing it. I love it when I do hear from people who I have been an influence on their choices in life. I hope you will share with me your comments, as I am happy to receive them, especially for my fill in the blank topics.

Topic: You Are What You_________

Wednesday February 10, 2010

I am going back to the fill in the blank topics because I know they are fun for me and I hope that you enjoy them, too. There are so many expressions out there that have been used for time immemorial. I have decided to find ones that I can use and have a connection to health. I am always open to suggestions and welcome your comments and what you would fill in the blank with. Mine would be, “You are what you eat/think/speak/create. I say the first one, because of course my life path for the last 20 years, has been as a vegan and now a raw food vegan. The others I say, as well, because each of us has freedom to say, do and act the way we choose (doesn’t mean that it is the correct way, so to speak) and it was shape the future outcome. For example, if you think positively, no matter what the situation, you will likely get the ideal result. I am not saying that it will happen overnight, but we can “reprogram” our mindset and shift it to a better way of life. A personal example that I will share, is when I had my silver/mercury fillings removed in 1996, I did not use any Novocaine throughout the process (I want to thank my dentist, Dr. Grant Layton; www.laytondental.com for putting up with my insistence on refusing to use a painkiller). I did a breath meditation during the entire procedure. It also helped to keep my eyes closed to keep the internal focus. The doctor prompted me a several times if I wanted anything, but I shook my head no. He even showed me with a mirror, that one of my back molars had very deep decay and I still refused. Now, I don’t suggest everyone out there, do what I did because not everyone is capable of that. I want to share with you that I did not feel much when the dentist was “digging” out the deep decay and the sensation to me, what merely something you would get if you took a small pin and gently pricked your skin. The doctor was baffled and amazed that I wouldn’t take anything and said to me, “I am going to be more traumatized then you when we’re done!” Now you can understand how I created a way to not even allow the pain to ever filter into my body, through the power of mind control. It is truly an amazing phenomenon and the most important part of what I did, is to never once, not ever for a second stop the cycle/pattern of my meditation (or I know, I would have shrieked out in pain).

Tuesday February 9, 2010

I am taking a break from the fill in the blank topics that I have been doing lately, but I do plan to return to them again. I decided today to go with one of the famous expressions that we hear throughout our lives. The reason why, is that today I am traveling to another state to visit my family and while I am waiting in the airport to board my flight, it is interesting to watch people go by. You sometimes hear that you can tell the way a person acts, (I am not trying to label, anyone, per se) by watching their pet (dog, cat, etc). I believe this to be true, but isn’t an absolute 100% full proof statement. I say the same about noticing what someone is drinking (water, juice, coffee, soda, alcohol, etc) and eating (fruit, salad, burger, sandwich, etc). You may not have thought about this one, but seeing people that are more/less conscious in their choices of what they consume (food and drink), is fascinating to me. They probably don’t realize that I am paying attention to that as they walk by me in the airport terminal or sit next to me on the plane and they tell the flight attendant what they wish to drink/eat (or in any other situation where I see people). I am not being prejudice, but I know that if I went somewhere to perhaps meet a prospective suitor, I would make it like “The Dating Game,” and ask them where they would take me out to eat (even though, I don’t ever eat out anymore because, if you have been reading my blog most of the way from the beginning in December 2009, I am a raw vegan and eat fruits, vegetables, green leafy vegetables, sea vegetables and once a week avocado). Another thing I would want to know, is their beverage of choice (again, I don’t want to be with someone who drinks coffee, alcohol or soda because I don’t and know the ramifications of consumption of these beverages). You can learn a lot more then you realize from this! Now you may choose to pay more attention, so even if you see that cute guy walk by you and he is sipping on a drink in a styrofoam cup (a no-no for me) which is probably a soda from McDonalds or Jack-in-the-Box (fast food is a no-no for me, too!), you may think twice about going over and introduce yourself to him as he doesn’t have the same principles of health as you do. I know this may seem like lots to digest (no pun or yes pun intended!), but if you are making a decision to spend the rest of your physical life with one person, he/she needs to be living in the same stream of consciousness (so to speak), as you are.
